looking for a dvd burner

i could get one for around $70 from newegg and then add an external case.
i'm thinking of going firewire, but i have a question. is firewire faster, slower, or just about the same
as if the drive was going to go into a desktop running off of IDE?

Slower, like tiap says. I'd get an external case that does both 1394 and USB 2.0 if I were you.

firewire is slow but I been able to burn 4x-6x off my dell notebook using usb2

i wouldn't try 10x though..
