Looking for a Domain Name Registrar with Good Customer Service

I have used Domain Direct for a while.

They used to have good customer service.

Not any more !

in the most recent transaction, i went to renew a domain name.
i got the confirmation statement at the end of the transaction,
saying, "your domain name has been renewed."

then i got another email saying it had not been renewed.
when i do a pre-registration search to check dates, it has
expired.

45 minutes on hold - no response.
webmail query 1 week ago - no response.

does anybody have a domain name registrar they actually LIKE ?

Yes. I will give you the url to my blurb on my horror story of domain provider with a happy ending instead of retyping it all here. Included is a lot of info on the new one that I am extremely happy with. It begins as a warning about 1and1 then goes on to tell the differences with godaddy.

We've used Network Solutions forever, and have nothing but good things to say about their service and customer service. They are very costly compared to other registrars, but it's been worth it thus far.

I've used Godaddy.com since they started out. I've never had any issues with them, they've answered my one or two phone calls quickly, and their Domain transfer policies are reasonable.

Of course, I could be biased, since they are neighbors to me.

I use domainmonger.com and have for a very long time (since the beginnings of competition). I don't think they even have phone support, but they are pretty good about their web-based support. On a weekend, they recently got back to me with a high-priority issue in less than an hour.

It's possible that Network Solutions has changed since I last dealt with them, but in my past experience dealing with them personally and on behaf of many clients, there's nothing I can say about the company that is even remotely polite. I cannot strongly enough recommend against them.

Assuming that the OP is are talking about Domain registrar and Not hosting service.

For normal home user Phone is Not really an issue since the need for support is almost Zero.

Wat is important is to make sure that the vendor provide you we good Om Line Domain Controller so that the domain owner can log on and mange his Domain with almost No vendor's intervention.

I would go with both Rebate Monger and cmetz.

Godaddy.com

domainmonger.com

Network Solutions

Agreed.

I had one client who'd been sold a ".WS" Domain name by Network Solutions. We had to make some nameserver changes, and found that Network Solutions offered NO ONLINE way to do this for this Domain. You had to call and let Network Solutions do it for you manually. Something that should take ten minutes took more like two days.

Plus, in general, Network Solutions ws overpriced, made a lot of mistakes, and had poor online tools.
