Hi Echo,

Your best bet would be a Scanmaker 9600XL if they still have them in stock or a newer 9700XL or 9800XL. The 9600XL is SCSI and I know you mentioned you were looking for a non SCSI scanner but it fits within your budget. For a few hundred more you can get a 9700XL or 9800XL which has the capability of both Firewire and USB. You can view the specs on the scanners at:
