My friend is looking for a good gaming computer in the range of about $1000 to $2000. He will mainly use it for, Battlefield 2, AIM, and Generals. He looked at ABS, Dell, Alienware, and Hypersonic. I told him that an AMD processor would be better than an Intel one. Any recomendations?

The best way is to build your own :) Tell him to do some research on computer parts, read a book or two, and read stuff on Anandtech. Then he can build his own, save a lot of money, make it more upgradeable, etc.

Hi. I saw you on AnandTech boards. I'm that "friend." I'm wondering, what books do you suggest that I should read? Honestly, I'm quite new at all of this. So do you have any easy reads that would provide me with some understandable information? Thanks.

My xanga is obviously www.xanga.com/N_the_Eternal and on the boards I'm NtheEternal.

Thanks a lot,

You really don't have to read books to know how to do it. Post a topic on here that ask what parts you should buy. They will help you out. I'm new to building comps. and still havn't built one. Although I had no Idea at the begining and now I think I could put together any thing you throw at me. It seems really easy and I can't say it is because I havn't had the experience yet. Here is a very good link that should guid you through the whole process.

Yeah, you don't NEED to read a book, but reading a book or some other first time building guide would be a great help. The link that thekillerjks posted is probably the best guide on the internet. If you want a book, go to your local library and search the catalog for "build computer/PC" or something like that.
