I'm in the process of returning my recent purchase - Vizio 14" ultrabook (ct14-a4). The keyboard is horrible in terms of depth, placement, resistance and sensitivity. The trackpad is pretty painful to work with as well. The edges of palm rests are also razor sharp which hurts my wrists time to time.

I would like something in 13.3-14" screen size that has comfortable keyboard and trackpad. My budget is $800-1100. Just looking for an ultrabook or a thin laptop for writing, web surfing and watching HD videos.

Lenovo Yoga has awesome keyboard, decent trackpad (didn't use myself alot when saw in store), and cool finish, definitely not sharp or metal-y.

Do you know if it's backlit and if LCD is decent quality?

You looking only at Windows machines, or is an Apple a possibility? They have nice backlit keyboards and excellent trackpads.

Here's a refurbished* 13.3" MacBook Air for $999:

http://store.apple.com/us/product/FD...-intel-core-i5

* I've owned a couple of Apple refurbs, and they were indistinguishable from new machines. Full warranty as well.

Some other 13" Airs are here; if you want one with an optical drive, this 13.3" Pro is in your price range at $1019.

Lenovo Thinkpad 14" may work for you. Backlit keyboard, 1600x900 screen. LCD quality is not stellar, but servicable, non-glossy, at least.

I actually like the Macbook Air but I'm not a fan of OS X and don't want to go through the hassle of installing windows on a Mac.
