Hey all, been feeling a little tired and sluggish lately so I was thinking of changing up my diet for a bit. I feel as if I have been eating a lot of crap recently, though I have not gained any weight thankfully.

Anyway, I am loking for a book, website, or something to help with an overall cleansing diet.

I do not want to do anything silly like only eat an apple and a can of tuna per day (points for those who get that reference ;) ), I actually want something healthy, that will still give me enough energy to run and workout regularly.

So if anyone knows of any good books or sites I can use that has recipes, an overall listing of foods to eat/avoid and supplements to take (if necessary) I would greatly appreciate it.

Thank in advance for the help!

Cheers,
KT

I drink about 10 - 12 glasses of water a day already. I do probably need to add more fibre though.

I am actually looking for an overall plan though. If I just try to eliminate a few things here and there and add a few other things all on my own, I usually just end up not eating very much at all, which is not really the point.

Top 20 sources of fiber (Scroll all the way down to the bottom of the page.)

Cut out red meat, and eat as many of the foods from that list as possible.

Stock up on the Charmin Ultra Soft.

Avoid Soda, Pop, anything high in corn syrup. If you have to have that type of drink, get a Gatorade, it has corn syrup but about half what you get in a soda, but you are much better off with Milk and Water.

Avoid Transfat (fried) food, such as French Fries. Instead of potato chips, get Chips and Salsa.

Instead of eating fast food at lunch, run up to the grocery store deli isle, get an 8 grain turkey sandwhich or something with no mayo... Deli sandwhiches have alot of fiber since they put the right amount of vegetables on it and use whole grain breads.

Eat only 3 times a day at most, INCLUDING SNACKS! Give yourself about 5-6 hours between the meals/snacks. If you have a snack make sure you eat it with the meal and not inbetween.

Repeat for atleast 3 months, and like another poster said, get lots of Charmin Ultra Soft. As your body is cleansing, you will have lots of bad stuff coming out...

I just followed the same diet I mentioned above for about 4-5 months straight last fall, and I lost 40lbs, and felt a ton better. It does take awhile for the body to fix itself however. I didn't lose weight until about the 3-4th month. It comes down to patience, as it has to fix the hormone inbalance that is causing the sluggishness and worn out feeling.

It's called Leptim diet btw.

Those recommednations look good. Just to be clear though, the one thing I don't want to do is lose weight. I am exactly where I want to be with respect to my weight, but I think I could be a little healthier overall.

Well I rarely eat fast food (I do eat out a lot, but at real restaurants) and drink maybe 5 sodas per year, so no worries there.

I just took a closer look at that book and it seems to be what I am looking for. I do not want to lose any weight, as I am at the low-end of where I should be already, but for the overall cleansing/energy part, it looks great.

The hard part of following that book will be sticking to only 3 meals per day. I like to have an apple or a small bowl of cereal as a snack during a typical day.

Actually the really hard part would be cutting out coffee, which I'm sure will be recommended. :(

Thanks!

Leptin diet isn't actually about losing weight, its about managing your hormones so your body runs like it's supposed to. The side effect usually being you lose weight if you happen to have your metabolism out of whack. I was 40 lbs overweight, so thats why I lost 40lbs. It's not technically a diet. Its more of a stablizer of your hormone levels.

For example, Leptin diet explains why after you eat, about an hour or two later you feel the need to snack. And when you do you feel even more sluggish later on, increasing your need to snack more. Your body does that because your hormones aren't working right. It explains why and how to fix it.

But anyways, just read the next paragraph, I'll explain the basics of the problem, that way you can save yourself the 200 page book read I linked earlier.

When you eat there is a hormone which gets released into your bloodstream called Leptin. It basically tells your body that you are full, and that the liver can start processing the food it just ate. When hormone wears off, you get hungry again. The problem with a bad metabolism/sluggish/worn out feeling is because if you eat often, leptin levels in your blood is always high. So you are always "full", and your liver starts processing all the time. However, overtime, your body starts to get used to that level of leptin in your body. Like any drug, you become tolerant of it. Now the reverse starts to happen. Since your body has so much leptin and you've become tolerant to it, it no longer notices that you are full, and starts to tell you all the time that you are hungry. It causes you to snack more and more frequent, again, making leptin get even higher and your body gets even more tolerant of it. Over time, if you continue, your body still thinks you are starving even though you eat a ton. So your body eventually gets to the point where it puts you into starvation mode, and stops processing your energy, giving you that worn out feeling all the time. Since you are now eating/snacking all the time, all the food you are injesting just gets put into your fat cells. The fix is to stop snacking/eating all the time. That way leptin drops, and you lose your resistance to Leptin, but it takes about 3 months for it to happen.

So, even if you aren't overweight, now that you are starting to feel the sluggish feeling, it's because you are starting to get a bit of tolerance to your leptin levels. So if you just follow the eat 3 times per day, you are likely to get your hormones into shape again without even needing to diet or to lose weight.

Hmm, interesting. So it is not so much about what you eat (though that's part of it of course) but how/when you eat it.

I'm going to go check the bookstore at lunch to see if they have the book. Otherwise I'll hit Amazon.

Thanks so much! :)
