You might want to take that up with the web host (DeviousTrap) but I agree.

Yes they do.

With cPanel and Fantastico you can auto install forum software in about 30 seconds, it's VERY easy and fast.

$10 a year?! godaddy has $3.95 a month, so ~$50 per year. I like them and they are cheap for me. I got my friend registered and hosted for under $10, but $10 a year is pathetic. ;)

edit: they take paypal

some hosts would limit to maybe 10 ftp accounts. It's a marketing thing mainly, and these days, everyone pretty much puts it in there.

Who is your current web host?

What is your budget?

Most budget web hosts do not enable SSH access, why do you need it?

i was on 1and1 before, recently locked...was running a forum on there, it wasn't a high traffic forum neither which is why i'm guessing there's something in their TOS that prohibited it...

it was my personal forum site (non commercial), so budgetwise, the cheaper the better...with 1and1 i got in on their initial promo when they launched here in the states...i dun remember all the exact details, but it was good storage, good bandwidth, mysql DB, FTP and SSH access...IIRC the only thing out of my pocket was registering my domain name...

Why do you need SSH?

Sorry for bumping this

I'm wondering why aren't more people using SSH with their webhost? Personally I want SSH because I like using a command prompt to manage my account.. like I can make quick changes easily using pico/emacs/vi, instead of ftp out, edit, then ftp back in..It's also much easier to install custom stuff (as opposed automatic installation scripts), mess with config files, control mysql directly etc etc

So

Good point, nevertheless, I will be looking for a host -july-ish, so I'll probably switch. I don't get nearly enough traffic to pay $10/mo for the site.

$10 a year your not gonna get all that with reliabilty.

Your forum users are going to get pissed when your forums go up and down more often than..... Ross's mom!!1! :Q
