I have this 1.6 ghz (socket 478) cpu but don't have a board for it. I am looking for a dirt cheap board that will run this. It's for my kids.

I have everything else I need (case, psu, etc)

I see a lot of 478 boards that say it will run up to 3.2ghz for example, but I never see anything about the minimum. Is there a minimum cpu that a socket 478 board will run? I am assuming its Northwood (but not sure) Does that matter?

Its almost certainly a Northwood, sandra would tell you. I think some mobos may not support the P4a's 400 MHZ fsb but they would be high end anyway.

If you see the mobo supports 400 fsb, it will work. Something like 400/533, or 400/533/800 for example.

All of the following are P4 socket 478 and FSB400:
ASRock P4S61 ; P4VT8 ; P4i45GV R5
ASUS P4P800E-Dlx ; P4P800MX ; P4P800SE
Foxconn 651M02-G-6L

The ASRock P4i45GV is $48.95 (Canadian $ or $39.00 US) the cheapest on the list
Foxconn is next at $56.00 (Canadian $ or $44.80 US)
of the ASUS: P4P800MX is $79.00 (Canadian or $63.20 US)

1.6ghz would be in the willamette era, wouldn't it?

I was also looking for a cheap, stable board for my 2.8ghz Northwood 533mhz FSB.
