Looking for a CC with rewards

I have a 160 mile round-trip commute to work every day, and spend a lot on gas.

I am looking for a CC that has good rewards on gas purchases, as well as all of my other monthly expenses.

The only card I have with rewards right now is the Sony CC card which I'll never have enough points to get anythin with.

I just got a letter from costco yesterday to renew and saw that they offer a AMEX with rewards. I didn't see anywhere where it specifically listed gas purchases. Do they fall under travel?

Any other good options besides the costco AMEX?

Hey,

For a general purpose card, you could take a look at the Citi Drivers Edge? I personally just have a Shell card(just because I use Shell). Otherwise there is the PenFed Card, I believe that you can still apply.

Another thing, are you looking for Cashback? Or TYP/Points kind of things?

Well at this point probably just cash back. My sony card gives points, but everything that you can use those points for is so ridiculously high I may never be able to use them. :)

I don't have a particular gas station I stop at in the mornings. sometimes it's shell, but mostly I stop at 7-11 or BP.

I"d like to use the card for all of my purchases, groceries/other stuff at wal-mart, verizon/comcast bills, etc..

Yea but you have to hit $3000 beofre you get the full 1% on all other purchases.

I am glad i got my chase card that gives 5% on gas, grocerys, etc... and 1% on the rest before they closed it. Mind you I hit my rewards limit last year and did not even know. :)

It also looks like the discover card only gives 5% on the first $1,200 on gas/maintenance purchases, which I would pass pretty easily..

Still reading up on the Citi Drivers Edge and Discover Road Warrior.

Any other suggestions?

Pentagon Federal Credit Union has a Visa rewards card that pays 5% on gas and 1.5% on everything else.

EDIT: I see they have modified their card rewards. Now 5% on gas, 2% on supermarkets, 1.25% on everything else. Cash back is paid monthly.

I'll have to look into that, I thought I got an application to join that at one point with my job or here at work.
edit: Actually my company (General Dynamics IT ) is eligible to join the Pentagon Federal CU. Definitely might check that out now.

For others who may be reading, anyone can join the Pentagon FCU. If you don't qualify by virtue of your employer or by being in the military, you can join the National Military Family Association ($20/year) which makes you eligible for Penfed. Once you're in, you don't have to keep the NMFA membership to stay in Penfed.

Chase Freedom has 3% on your top 3 categories each month and 1% on everything else.

$50 cash back or $250 cash back for $200 earned cash back.

The categories can be found online I'm sure as I dont have them handy but thats what I use for everything at this point.

amex costco business get you 5% for gas. (regular costco amex doesnt)

discovercard = 5%, but only up to $100/month

penfed credit card = 5% no limit

shell credit card = 5% no limit on $, but limited to shell gas
