Im looking for a new car, my budget is $10,000 and would not mind spending below that amount

I love my parent's honda (2004 civic coupe EX and 2008 RDX)
My dad claims to have seen automatic Fits for around that price, i havnt looked into it
and my friends dad pointed this car out:

2004 Volkswagen Jetta Sedan GL
Miles:46,708
Engine: 2.0 L 4 Cyl.
Exterior: Black
Interior: Gray

I need a car that gives good gas millage (who doesnt?) I really dont care about looks all too much, and need to be able to do some if not most maintenance my self (i4 please )

thats about it
I live in sugar hill, ga and don't mind going 100 miles to get it

Thanks,
Alfa

NO VW!!! Yea it looks nice, but when ti has problems, and most will, you will regret it.

What are you looking for? Power, gas milage, lux., price, 2/4door, etc...?

Gas milage, I would like power windows, locks, and an AC is a must have down here

Coupe hatchback would be nice, not a must
Power not so much, as long as i can hit 70 ish when i need too

I was just in my friends 08 jetta seemed nice, but i guess not in the long run?

and not a big fan of domestic cars

I really doubt you'd be able to find a Fit in that price range. You'd have to go upto at least 12 for a used Fit (when I mean 12 the only thing you get is the PW/PL & AC)

Thats what I have seen in my area.

used Fits are mostly around $14-15K in my area. Even a used Civic is cheaper. Just a lot of demand for those cars. When I was car shopping last year I was shocked to see new Fits with $2K to $3K dealer markups, and being sold in 24 hours of arrival at that price.

But your area may be different.

Other cars to consider might be the Mazda 3 and Civic.

Consider the 3. I saw plenty of 3's going for $10k-11k on ATL Craiglist. If I were you, I'd shoot for something less than $10k.

The 3 is a valid choice. If fuel economy is a concern, make SURE it's the 2.0 with the 5spd, which will also be the most affordable 3.

The 3 is based on the C1/MK2-chassis Focus that's now being sold in Europe. It's several hundred pounds heavier than the previous MK1/1.5 Focus / Foci that we have here in the states. That said, you should also look at the new Focus. I went with the Focus because the incentives were incredible, and it delivers 35mpg hwy (I've actually been getting 30+ combined, with 60% city driving) and good features, quiet ride, for cheap.

yes mazda 3, hatch or sedan. some could go for a 10k.

i dont think u can get a fit for 10k at all. unless its high mileage or something. the jetta is out of the question, it will make you learn to do everything yourself but even then it will cost you in parts. plus the 2.0 is not a great engine. oil sludge HUGE issue.

a dealer listing about 11-13k you can possbily talk them down to 10k out the door. but the fit is more or less a pretty popluar car with the gas prices.

If looks don't matter, check out the 2004-2007 Malibu. These are so much better values as used cars compared to the overpriced imports.

Domestic replacement parts by and large remain cheaper than their foreign counterparts. The divide isn't what it was back in the days of rusting out Japanese cars inside of five years, but it remains nonetheless. That's why everyone has suggested steer well clear of the VDub.

Perhaps you only intend to do small things such as oil changes though.
