looking for a car mp3/cd player

I'm looking for a car cd/mp3 player somehwere around $150 but a little more or less is ok. I'm concerned with a better sounding cd player than a cheaper one. Does anyone have any recomendations or places that have reviews?

sony usually makes decent head units. without divulging into many different brands and their ups and downs, I would say just get a Sony, or an alpine from Circuit City on the cheap. Look around for good deals..... Spend as much as you can afford to, because its better to spend $20 more than planned, then to spend $20 less and end up having to spend another $150 later on to replace the POS you bought trying to be thrifty.

Lies! Sony is crap. Sony for car audio is crap. Go with a nice Panasonic unit. They should have one for around that. Or JVC makes better stuff than Sony does.

Go to crutchfield.com, look through their mp3 cd receivers list and pick one. Then go to ebay and buy it cheaper. If you go the crutchfield route, they'll include the wiring harness and instructions for you , which will save you 40-60 bucks installation, unless you know how to do it yourself. Even then, the parts aren't free.

Ive owned some Aiwas, pioneer's, and currently own a JVC. You can't go wrong with a pioneer, kenwood, jvc, or panasonic... but you do get what you pay for. If you want good sound, invest in good speakers and an amp.

The JVC I have has a built-in amp, it works, but doesn't compare to my real amp, obviously.

Not all Sony is crap. Ever been in the presence of a $1000+ Sony Reference Deck with something like Oz Audio of Focal Speakers? With Sony, I am making a generalization. Panasonic, JVC, etc. all good decks.

I own an eclipse deck too. Its simple, very clean sounding (maybe its my focals), and it looks sleek. It is not overloaded looking like a lot of decks out now.

Um anyone who would pay 1g for a Sony deck is smoking some good crack. I'd rather buy a Nak or a Eclipse for that price. And I'd be using Rainbow speakers. Focal is great and all but I like how the Rainbow's sound better. Also Oz speakers are good too, kinda old school, but good.

never heard rainbow's, but aren't speakers getting to the point that at a certain level of quality, differences are inaudible? I don't have the best focals, but a buddy of mine has OZ, and we were commenting on how if it wasn't for the difference in cars, they would sound equally as good because they were both so incredibly accurate.

I'm looking at a Clarion DXZ645MP.. anyone got any feedback on the recent Clarions? I've only ever run Pioneer before, so I'm in unfamiliar territory.
