Looking for a budget C2D build

Hi all,

Long time lurker here.

I am getting ready to pull the trigger on a C2D build. I already have a powersupply and case and I plan on pulling my 6600 out of the other PC (my wife can get by with integrated graphics ).

I have decided that I want the 6300. I plan on doing some mild OCing, but I don't plan on setting any records.

My questions come down to 1. Motherboard and 2. RAM.

For number 2, I was hoping to get on the eWiz deal with the SuperTalent RAM(partnumber: T6UX2GC5, PC5400, CL5).

For number 1, I am stuck between three motherboards:
MSI P6N SLI-F
BIOSTAR TForce965PT
GIGABYTE GA-965P-S3

Any suggestions? Will this RAM work with these boards? Or am I stuck looking for 800MHz RAM?

Your O/C will be quite limited with that CPU and ram combo, I would suggest either changing the CPU to an E4300 or change the ram to DDR800

Thanks for the helpful info.

With the E4300 I lose the VT correct? Does anyone know a general percent difference between running virtual environments with VT and without VT? Are we talking about 5% or 50% difference. I am not going to be running them full time, but it is certainly something I will be tinkering with.

I don't see a problem with the e6300 choice. However, I'd agree get some DDR2-800 RAM. The SuperTalent will work but it'll be limited to 333FSB. Just take that into consideration on how much you want to o/c as it's your call. Here are some of the cheaper options (some rebates) at Newegg...

For the MB, I'd go with the Biostar or the Gigabyte.

I think that I have decided on the 6300 + Corsair TWIN2X2048-6400 2GB Kit ($161 from ZZF after rebate) + Gigabyte GA-965P-S3 P965.

I would have liked the MSI board. But, I can't find many reviews of it and I don't feel like being a guinea pig. I can always add a $10 firewire port and I don't need the SLI.

Any thoughts before I order? I think that this is pretty standard stuff from what I have read.
