2. Will the rp2 be able to play EVERY video and audio codec? Can I install those? Or will this be handled by kodi?

Pi 2s cannot play 4K video well or HEVC video at all. BUT for 1080P Blu Ray rips nothing is better for the price, once you buy the extra codecs it plays VC1 and MPEG2 files better than anything running Android. I take this kind of stuff too seriously and the Pi 2 can play files that choke say a WD Live or even a Amazon Fire TV.

Ok, thanks, good to know. I get hounded a lot by people for not concerning myself with things like DTS-HD but sincerely 1080P HD video and DD 5.1 is the extreme high quality of my video watching. I'd say about 99% is just mkv, mp4, avi with standard 2.0DD. And even in gaming, again, 5.1 at most. Also, to the argument that once I hear DTS-HD and other similar razor's edge sound technologies I'll want them, I have heard them but in places that have the gear to make use of it. The kinds of speakers you would need to get that at home are in a price range I well never pay for speakers. You need the right toys to play with that kind of sound, otherwise it's as pointless as getting 1080p on a smartphone.
