It depends on the topic, but I strongly suggest the books by John Allen Paulos.

Need to refresh myself since it's been awhile that I've done math.

One Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish, Blue Fish.

This book also works on other skills in addition to basic mathematics.

According to former pres Bush it's also the definitive guide to modern foreign policy and the presidency.

How basic?

Do you need to learn to add? Do you know basic algebra? Do you know basic calculus?

I don't remember the specific titles of the books, but I read two different books with "Innumeracy" in the titles. Both seemed like they might be quite accessible to someone who is intelligent, but not necessarily good at math. I wish I had them on my bookshelf here, but have no idea where they're at. (Maybe at school?) If you don't know much about math AND don't consider yourself intelligent, then the Dr Seuss suggestion above may be more appropriate. :p

Exactly the books by the author I mentioned earlier in the thread.

My son is in kindergarten. Would you like to borrow some of his books?

:confused;
