Looking for a better cooler from H50

Greetings. I currently have an i7-870 @ 4.0ghz at 1.3v with an H50 w/ single fan configuration and am getting around 87c load on prime95 after running for about 5 minutes. I would like to get this down to around 70c or even lower but I'm not looking to break the bank so to say on a new cooler. I was thinking something in the 30-50 dollar range.

I have the H50 as intake and have tried push vs pull with the fan with no change. I suppose I could add another fan and make it push/pull intake and see if that keeps things under wrap but I would prefer to get down to the 75-80c mark instead for a couple hours of prime.

I have the fractcal design define mini. 2x120mm intake front, 1x140mm intake side, 1x140mm exhaust top, 1x120mm intake (h50) back.

At stock its doing 55-58 (core variance) with prime95.

Possibly considering the hyper 212+, evo or the thermalright true spirit 120

At first glance that sounds like either an H50 mounting problem or a case airflow problem. Which case do you have and how are the other fans configured?

Seems the GT is OOS everywhere which isn't that hard to believe. These have been OOS since like 08 unless you get lucky and get one on time 😀

I wonder though. How much of a difference I will see with a new fan when I could just replace the HSF all together.

You just have to know where to look to find the GT's.

Aquatuning.us GT in stock -- If anyone does order from there, there is a minimum order of 75 dollars or you get hit with a 10 dollar fee....BUT, they use 2-3 day air shipping UPS so it ends up being 16-18 dollars with the fee, not horrible considering its international 2-3 day air. Just a heads up.

Back on topic.....I'd sell the H50 off and get a hyper 212 evo. GT's arent cheap to begin with and if you go with two your pushing 40+ dollars before shipping.

If you want to be cheap, look around for some yate loon low speed 120mm fans. Throw two on there and see what you get.

What are your thoughts on the HR-02 Macho? I can pick one up for like 53 shipped or the A70 for 40 shipped with a $15 MIR

These are good questions. If your Case has bad Airflow, changing to Air Cooling is not going to help.

I'm pretty sure I have good air flow. My GPU runs fantastic IMO gtx 560 ti 448 at 975mhz core and 2100mhz mem for 60c load. My load temps on my i7-870 stock is like 55c which is also decent but I feel it is a limitation to the performance of a 3 year old H50.

That's a lot of positive displacement, maybe there's so much pressure inside the case the 120mm rad fan can't push much air in/over the rad!? Those are some crazy hot load temps 🙂

I was having problems with my i7 overheating and went with the Arctic Cooling Freezer 13 Pro for $35, best money I've ever spent 🙂 http://canadacomputers.com/product_info.php?cPath=8_129&item_id=035257

If you REALLY want to drop your CPU temps drop a peltier between your H50 and the CPU 🙂

I am running 4x2gb. I went ahead and ordered a hyper 212+ since it was $20 shipped new and I will see how that behaves. I may also end up ordering a Thermalright true spirit 120 if I don't like how the hyper is performing.
