Looking for a basic SLI mobo...upgrading from D3SL

I am looking to get a SLI mobo to replace my gigabyte P35-DS3L so I can run SLI 8800gt oc's and a 9series card in the future.

I am currently using windows xp and probly will be until games really start to utilize or need DX10 from 64bit VISTA

The rest of my comp is as follows:
Intel E2180 @ 3ghz w/ artic cooling freezer 7 pro
MSI 8800gt oc
2x1gb G.Skill pc6400
Corsair TX650
80gb IDE Western Digital HD
40gb IDE Western Digital HD
Lite-On DVD-RW Lightscribe

What should I go with 680i, 780i, etc? Will I be able to overclock my E2180 to 3ghz easily(all I really had to do with the DS3L was change the FSB and ram multi)?

Reliability is a big issue...I certainly don't want any random blue screens b/c of a shitty board.

CHEAPER IS BETTER LOL! Thanks

Im looking into doing the same thing.. my DS3L isnt even 2 weeks old yet and i want SLI 9600GTs really badly..

I'm on Vista 64 with an E8400 and 8 gigs of DDR2 8500 so board must support 1066 ram.

The fact that it might not be on the QVL does not mean much...

I don't think my RAM is "supported" either...

I would say go with 780i so you can run both Video cards at 16x... From what I know the x50i's are all SLI but can only run one card at 16x the other at 8x. The 780i's will give you more support for CPU's and future proofing as well. I like EVGA and MSI though I would go with the EVGA 780i because they have their lifetime warranty on it.

No literally.. my ram is 1066 its not on there.. that board doesn't support that fast of DDR2

8 GB Patriot DDR2-8500 5-5-5-15

I believe the new 750 motherboards can support two cards at 16x. And they're around $150 so if a person has a budget and they want SLI seems like a good solution.

Just out of curiosity, since it's 9600GTs, we're talking about, why not just sell yours and get say an 8800GTS 512? Wouldn't that be a lot easier (and better)?

Would be but the SLI 9600s are kicking the crap outa all but the GX2 for single card solutions. and cost less as SLI than the GTS does as a single card solution.
I had a 9800GTX in my hand yesterday.. but the reviews are disheartening.

like you said might as well get the GTS if youre gonna buy a GTX.

Still considering a single card GTS.. but man... the reviews are saying SLI 9600s is the way to go right now.

I understand the cost thing but SLI 9600s requires you to fork out for a new mobo as well, whereas trading up to a GTS would not, so I imagine that would more than cover the cost. Though if SLI 9600s are beating the tar out of the GTS512, I can understand.

Well the MB wouldn't cost me that much as I can still return the DS3L to Fry's as its brand new still and their policy is 30 days for any reason.
