Looking for a AMD/MOBO and Memory

Im thinking of going AMD from a p4 3.0E 2gb PQI DDR2 Pc4200 MSI Combo p915. Would it be worth going amd with a budge of 350$????
If so what should i get?

if you want a Mobo, Memory, AND a processor, $350 isn't going to get you much. And whether or not you'll see any increase over the specs you've quoted is even more questionable. I don't know how much stuff goes for in $, but for the £250 at best that that's equivalent to, you'd end up skimping on one of the three to stay in budget.

e.g maybe get a 3700+, some decent mobo lol, n then you'd have little left for RAM.

Well, that's how it seems to me.

Also, you might wanna say what you use the pc for aswell, if you encode lots and don't game, it'll make a difference to people's suggestions.

Good luck,

If you know a little about overclocking and flashing bioses, the best bang for your buck--if you absolutely must have all three parts-- would be the Asrock DualSata II motherboard, an Opteron 144, and a gig kit of 'budget' 2-2-2-5 TCCD DDR400, like the Patriot (edit: not patriot--the GSKILL is the least expensive ddr400 TCCD on Newegg). All that would clock in at just about $350

Flash the motherboard with an OCWorkbench.com custom bios, set the HTT to 300 and cross your fingers for 2.7G.

You might not get 2.7G (or you might get more) but 2.5/6 would be pretty easy, I would guess.

Pretty hard to beat FX-55/56/57, motherboard and RAM at that price point.

Wouldn't be worth dropping $250 then IMO. P4 3.0 plus 7800gt should be more than enough for gaming right now. Maybe if you needed dual core, but for a single core Athlon (even overclocked 2.4-2.7ghz) I doubt you'd see much change in gaming.
