I want to get a 46-50" or bigger TV for 1-2k (2k AT THE MAX!!!). It has to have a QAM tuner, and a reliable display technology, and a plethora of connections (digital coax out for tuner please). (aka no regular DLPs please, how much are the smaller LED DLPs?)

Nothing else is really required, please post links and price please. I don't really want to buy from Amazon if I don't have to.

How far are you going to be sitting from your set? What do you want it for (IE: gaming/HTPC/etc...)? Is there a lot of ambient lighting? What are the viewing angles going to be like from your seating area...

There are a lot of sets in that price range that probably will fit your needs (probably looking at like 46-47" LCDs and 50" plasmas with some DLPs spread in depending on the tech I guess). Many new TVs have plenty of inputs and a suitable amount of outputs. Some have optical out... some have coax out... it's easy to conver them... I wouldn't even factor that into the choices... as long as it has a digital out you're good. Check out the AVS forums for more information. There are plenty of good deals out there (46" 1080p sharp sets were going for $1300 at CC today.. while sammy 1080p LCDs of the same size were going for the same price at frys). 42" 1080p panny 77u plasmas were under 1k at sears last week...and there will probably be quite a few more deals like these before the holidays are over. Panasonic and Pioneer (and samsung to a lesser extent) are known for their great plasmas. Sony, Samsung, Sharp (and to a lesser extent LG, toshiba, JVC, etc...) make great LCD displays. I personally own two samsung 4065F LCDs... the 46" version (4665F) can be had on amazon for under $1800 w/ free shipping and no tax last time I checked... I bought both on amazon...

Yeah, but sorting through AVS is a pain, especially if you are looking for different display technologies.

lol. based on past posts, it seems like you're more than capable of figuring out what you want.

If I didn't already have an HDTV though, I would have bit on that 50" Samsung DLP they were selling at CC for $800. not sure if they still are...try online

EDIT: anyway, I think you'd be happy with either of those. I have a 42" 720p Samsung plasma...and I love it.

It is just hard to figure out what I want, all of them have the features I want.

Then there is projectors, ugh, that AX200U keeps calling me, but I don't like to mess with e-tailers I haven't bought from before. It might be a little easier not trying to out do the living room TV, but do I want them bums in my room? Gah, too hard to choose!!!

For now I am saving for the 50" Samsung Plasma. 1300 is a great price. GAH!!!!, it is now 1400!!!! Stupid ass B&Ms!!! They release it at 1300 and then ream you.

adding some pain to your decision.

i wandered into a Tweeter earlier today (had no idea this was on the 7th floor of a downtown mall (who'da thunk it?)

they had the 50" Elite Kuro 1080p out front, hooked up to one of those "elite" blu ray players, looping an image of a pot of flowers.

...I just about unloaded in the store. I suggest pimping out your sister for 5k to buy that panel. It doesn't get better. Ever.
:p

(they also had the 60"+ version in the back, but hookups were shitty. I assume it was only....better...)

KEKE, hell as of now that would be about half as much as my current yearly income, EEK!!!
IDK, I guess it would come down to which one looks better in person, but I do not know of any stores near me that:
A. Sell the projector I want.
B. Actually have it setup to audition it.

Then there is a Phillips 50 Plasma at Wal-Mart for 1400, but only way I will take that is if I cannot get the Sammy for less than 200$ over the Phillips.

My 27" CRT now is a Phillips and it has not given me any trouble for about a year, but then I probably haven't put 100 hours on it (gotta love that QAM tuner though) ^_^. I hope to sort of change that with this display.

Only the most elite rock 27" 4:3 CRTs.
