Anyone have any experience with them?

Wired or wireless is fine with wired preferred.

I'm aware of your location issues (bugs, humidity) so I would shy away from IP cams and IR illumination. As far as the DVR's go, I build my own with linux and zoneminder. A 2 gig machine with a gig of ram and a 250gb drive is all you need, and a $45 capture card. I shop at bluecherry.net for my hardware.
This cam would do nicely without the need for IR and all the hassles.

external IR illumination is the solution. How is that camera doing it's night vision without them? Also no IP rating on that camera...I will check out that site though, looks like they have a lot.

stay away from wireless stuff, they absolutely destroy anything else on their frequency range (most notably wifi) because they bounce all over it.

I know about the costco deals, I am trying to find someone with experience. The cameras with the IR Illuminators around the lens foul easily.

Probably going to run Blue Iris for the software and Network or Standard wired cameras.

Many 'pros' are recommending the Axis cameras which are around $200 each. I may go that route and start with two cameras and then upgrade as budget allows (I am also doing a full security system with 20 windows and 5 doors to cover.

Here is my layout:

http://30moons.com/images/Garage/Houselayout.jpg

blue are windows.

living room windows are about 5' x3' (HxW) and there are three of them in a row. Front door is here.

family room has 2'x3' windows, 2 on one wall and 1 one another. There are two french doors in this room.

Utility has a 3'x3' window.

The office has 2x3' windows. 2 on each of the outer walls. There is a door leading out here.

The 3 bedrooms have 3x4.5 windows with the master having 2 of them.

the one bathroom has a 2x3' window

The workshop has 4 4'x3' windows and a 'people' door. The windows are reinforced with 1/4" steel grating bolted through the studs. The door is the weak link here.

4 - 6 cameras is hardly fort knox. I am looking for a basic comprehensive security setup.

simple video and a monitored alarm.

Yeah, I don't see anything extreme about that either.

I have much experience and expertise in CCTV. My current job title is the Dir of Surveillance for three major strip resort Hotel/Casino's in Las Vegas Nevada.
For what reasons do you want a personal CCTV system installed at your residence?
What kind of budget are you working with?
Do you need remote access to the control desk from another location?

Marked. I am interested in getting a system, one to watch my pool, since I am not sure how long the pool guy spends here, another would be the side area that is totally dark on the house, and the last would be right in the front yard, since someone's dog keeps taking a shit on my lawn and leaving it there.

It is rated at 0.1 lux in day mode and 0.01 lux in night mode. It is a color cam by day and a very sensitive B/W camera by night, using ambient illumination. It is not an IP camera, it is an analog camera.

Neighbor was cleaned out between 8:30am and 10am Friday. I have had one tagging on my front wall. The neighbor across the street had a full vehicle vandalism (every body panel damaged).

I was looking at Blue Iris software at $50. I have been told by pros that the cameras they work with start about $250 (Axis 200 something). Looking for just fixed domes preferably with off camera IR.

Budget is open based on that. I don't need $2000 cameras though. I want decent surveillance, monitoring from the net (not really looking to control pan and scan) and a relatively clean face shot within 10-20'.

same reason i picked up a surveillance system. neighbor was cleaned out in broad daylight. i got an h.264 dvr that allows me to monitor over the internet and on my mobile phone. picked up a few 580tvl 54 led IR cameras cheap from ebay. waiting for the power/video cables and rca/bnc connectors to get it all set up this weekend.

That's what we are trying to determine :)

I have been told two $250 cameras, $50 blue iris software and about whatever it takes for a basic PC and HD should do it. If you want pan and scan the cameras can double.

Those in humid/freezing areas will need fans/heaters usually for maximum uptime.
