I'm looking for an app that can replace the Windows command-prompt. something I can right-click/cut-paste in and possibly other convenient features. - kinda like Textpad is to Notepad as _______ is to the Windows command-prompt in terms of convenience. -

anyone have any ideas?

Powershell is a crap shell and just uses the same CSRSS that cmd uses so it doesn't address anything the OP wants.

Not really, I used rxvt for a bit in the past when I had cygwin installed and it was nice because it was resizable via drag and such.

I'm able to copy and paste from the windows command prompt just fine. Copying is a little silly because I have to 'Select All' first then highlight what I want but pasting works normal. I usually do the copy/paste operations from right clicking the banner.

copy and paste in command shell

right click select mark...highlight the text, press the enter key

then paste - right click select paste.

You could always install cygwin and use one of the many terminal applications for it.
