I think most people would recommend speakers + subwoofer + reciever as being 3 seperate things/purchases over an "all in one" type system.

That said, it will cost a lot more than $200 to pursue that route (unless you look for used/garage sales.)

Anyhow, bookshelf system might give you same sound and price but better flexibility.

Cheap T amp and a pair of decent speakers might give you better sound for music, though not as "loud" or maybe not as much bass depending on what you are looking for. (I have a $25 T amp plugged in to a set of $300ish speakers in my home office, sounds very very good.)

Not telling you what to do, just maybe giving you some more options?

2.1 means 2 speakers and a separate sub. You'll need some type of amplification as well. If you're using a sub there's really no need for towers and for music if you're using (good) towers you may not need a sub depending on your listening preferences and expectations.

I don't need the greatest audio quality, hence why I don't want to go down the separate parts route. I'm also looking for something small I can stick in a corner, hence the tower route.

2.0 probably is fine.

Towers are not generally small. What you posted a link to is a glorified MP3 player dock. I don't think you can run two at the same time in stereo mode.

What type of music do you listen to, and what is your budget?

If you really don't need lots of bass, a simple 2 way speaker (no sub, either) can be much more musical at a reasonable price point.

A glorified mp3 dock is what I want. They have two speakers, hence being stereo.

I have a nice audio system in another room. I just want something simple for this room.
