That is most likely the only way to get 5yr warranty. If your going to leave it on full-time home-built is the only way to go due to needing a fan IMO. I like this one.

Thermaltake BlacX and any internal WD drive if you absolutely need the 5 year warranty.

Thermaltake BlacX and any internal drive if you're ok with 3 year warranties.

Either way, I highly recommend a drive dock type of enclosure.

Have you looked at the Seagate Free Agents? Fry's is promoting the 1.5TB Free Agent for $129 this week (quantity limited). That's $10 less than the drive alone right now.
