Any suggestions on 17 inch LCDs? I currently have a HP 1702 17 inch LCD and I need another LCD for the other computer don't know whether to buy the same lcd or different one with a lower response time.

Specs on the Hp 1702
Here - http://h18000.www1.hp.com/products/monitors/tft/l1702/specs.html
More info - http://h18000.www1.hp.com/products/quickspecs/11496_na/11496_na.HTML
PDF - http://h18000.www1.hp.com/products/quickspecs/11496_na/11496_na.PDF

Try to keep it under 250. Nothing over 250. Or just post some monitors and I'll look for some deals.

Thanks,

I like the Dell 1704FPT. You can get a brand new one for like $195 shipped on ebay with a 3 year warranty.

I read some post here that the 1704FPT has a terrible viewing angle.
Considering the Samsung 730B.

Anyone else?

1704fpt for sub $200 > All 17" Monitors

I have no problems with the viewing angles. And I got mine for $185 off Dell. Talk about a deal.

edit: forgot to mention, the dell also has a lot more features than the samsung, i.e. usb ports, screen rotation... and those do count for something.

Also check out the NEC 1770GX. Same panel as the 730B, so you could get which ever one you like better. As a bonus, it comes with a DVI cable in box, while the 730B does not.

Oh yeah, like dornick was saying the height adjustment is godly. I would never buy an LCD without it.

Go for the Samsung 730B. I picked one up on Saturday and I love it.
This is an extremely good monitor. I play flight sims, and have not detected any
ghosting at all - the colours are warm, the text is clear - and I'm only using the
Analog. The nice thing is that if you don't want DVI, they don't include the cable
with the monitor, so you don't end up paying for something you can't use.
Some people don't feel DVI gives enough of an improvement to justify the extra
expense of a cable.

The only problem is viewing angles. You have to be right in front to see the screen
properly. If you slouch at the screen, or move 3 or 4 inches to either side, then
you will see the image quality degrade. But many LCD's have this problem.
I recommend the 730B!!!

The 730B response time is 8ms, for what that's worth. But anything 12 ms or less
will be good for gaming.

710N/T is super-ceded by 730B, I believe. I have the 730B. Like others said, great monitor. Also, Samsung is releasing a 730BF soon, which is the same as the 730B except that it has a 4 ms response time instead of the 730B's 8 ms, but I don't really notice anything different from a CRT in terms of response time on my 730B on an analog connection.

I think Samsung and Viewsonic are pretty much on par at the top for LCD monitors, but I prefer Samsung's due to their simpler, cleaner style.

Ordered the Samsung 710n. The 730b is a bit out of my price range. Thought I could have maybe got a better deal on it but nope everything is $300. Got te 710n for $250 shipped from NewEgg.com. I was going to get the 710t (has a dvi instead of the regular connector like the 710n has) but it costs way more than the 710n and it only adds a dvi connection.

Thanks for the input people.

Will see how this Lcd is.

"does using the dvi actually improve the quality that much?"

I've asked this question myself - some say it makes a difference, others say no.
I think it depends on your monitor. I wouldn't know since I've only used analog and it's
just fine for me.

The Viewsonic VP171b-2 is a good monitor but costs more than $250 unfortunately. It's serving me quite well.
