Just completed a purchase that is going to put me into a 5870 crossfire situation. I have a "measly" Q6600 @3.6 and would like to see what benefit is to be had with an OC'ed I7.

I will be posting #'s when the card arrives

rig is as follows.

Q6600 @3.6
8 gigs ddr 800
ep45 ud3p- yeah with 8x pci-e 2.0 lanes not 16, hardly limited my 4870x2 so I'm not worried

3007wfp- 2560x1600

I plan on testing HD 5870 2GB in CF soon (this week most likely) at 2560x1600. I don't think the extra mem makes a difference, so if you want the numbers, I'll share.

Besides that, the most recent CF numbers I have are with the 9.12-drivers. You could compare it to a HD 5970 though. If it beats your dual HD 5870, you're cpu would obviously be the culprit.

I am in for this... I have a E8400(stock) and a 5870, but I am really thinking about adding another card, but not sure if it would be better to upgrade the CPU and motherboard instead.

A q6600 @ 3.6 is no slouch. @ 2500x1600 it should make little to no difference with a i7.
You will be gpu limited.

marc venice- your 5870 2 gb #'s would be greatly appreciated.

happy medium - I know my system is farily competent. I'm just bored and figured it is about time the forums start getting some useful threads again.

I hear ya bro.

I'd get something with more then 1gb or ram though. Do they make 2gb 5850's?

umm, thanks for your participation in this thread your response is greatly appreciated and highly informative. Since you are the smart guy here, use google and find me the info I was asking for and post it in here. I'm looking for benches with the latest drivers and an oc'ed i7

*points to anandtechs very own fermi review*

I'm not trying to sound condescending but many fermi reviews will have exactly what you're looking for...

I thought he was looking for 2 5870 2gb each crossfire reviews? Not 1gb effectivly.

He never said that, just that'd he'd appreciate having marks 2gb numbers (I suppose to compare his 1gb setup against)

If that were the case though, *points to 5870 eyefinity edition reviews*

overall you would have much better results with using an i5/i7 over an E8400 if you want to go 5870 crossfire.
