mushkin hp blue pc3200

got this on tuesday from my new favorite etailer, tankguys. if you haven't tried them, give them a shot- competitive pricing and imo more importantly, awesome support.

anyway, best i could tell from reading reviews was the chips is made by "infineon" and is a marginal oc'er at best. only one reviewer had it running anything over 240 at any timings. ocz apparently uses infineon in their 1 gig "titanium" sticks also. but i figured the price is decent for a low latency 2 gig dc kit and i can always run a divider. plus i had heard good things from a few people about mushkin and their "blue" ram and i know it runs well on dfi nf4s.

anyway, i''m not sure if i have the same ram as what they reviewed or what. i had never even heard of infineon chips before but this stuff is awesome for 1 gig sticks. i ran it 2-3-2-7 up to 225 when i had to loosen it a bit and i haven't had to touch it since :Q here are some results-

2.5-3-3-8 @ 250, 2.8v
pi 32m = 27:17
timings (most anyway)

i'll probably try 275x10 at some point and see how it responds. has anyone else used these modules or infineon chips?

i was looking at that too. in fact this is the first non-ocz ram i've bought for my use. i dunno if i'm just lucky or what.

xs has a little 2x1gig oc database going over there in "extreme bandwith" if you want to see some results/timings/benches etc.

Yeah, I really want to know if these results are atypical or not. If I can get 250mhz stable out of these, I will buy them in a heartbeat. (Well, have to sell my old ram first, so a few heartbeats hehe.. anyone want 2x 512 pc3000 bh-5 250 2-2-5-2 :))

Roger that. I saw BF2 on the dash
thats why i got them. :)

Yeah, I really want to know if these results are atypical or not.
thats what i'm interested in as well. i don't know anyone else who has the 1gig mushkies but the people i know with the 512s love them.

i'm going to finish up some prime and then i'll try some 10x at the same timings and see where it'll go.

i actually didn't think it would go above 245 with these timings, i just decided to memtest it while i slept last nite. woke up ~4 hours later, 7 passes, no errors.

Damn, that store ships to Canada?

I am extremely pissed right now because i have 4x512 MB Corsair VS, & my stupid mobo won't run stably with 4 dimms...i can only use two :frown:

That's rather pricey, but i really want 2 GB of RAM...

Edit: OMG shipping is only $13.50?!?

How the heck have i never heard of this etailer before...this is simply awesome :D

Are they based outta Canada or sumthin'?

Second edit: They have a whopping one vote on Reseller Ratings...that kinda makes me nervous...

i didn't know they shipped to canada either. the owner (co-owner?) i you've probably seen here, tankguys is his s/n, Ben is his name. he is really great to deal with.

as for the price, its not bad for 2 gig, i mean it works out to 136/gb for low latency 1 gig sticks is how i looked at it. good quality LL cl2 512 sticks go for 150/gb and up. even if i had ended up on a divider with 2-3-2-6 stock timings i think this would have been a decent price.

i couldn't stomach spending 380 or so for the ballistix pc400 so i figured its worth a shot.

edit--to your edit, lol

as much as i hate saying this, don't worry about the reseller rating, they're new. you can get Ben here at any time. i ordered another dfi ultra board that happened to be oos, they emailed me and pm'd me almost immediately to give me options. had the board dropped ship directly from dfi to save me a few days.

lol, they also emailed me a link to dfi.street so i'd know what i was getting into :p

I swear this forum + my job in hardware retail = money sucking

I spend way too much on hardware, & now i think my search for good cheaper 2x1024 MB RAM is over.

I noticed i can also order the RAM directly from Mushkin for about the same price.

Damn i love this place...all answers tend to be found here when i'm not even looking... :p

Well, i am looking for some good CAS 2.5 or tighter 2x1024 MB RAM.

What do you recommend that's a better deal than that?

I generally recommend Value RAM since lower latency stuff will make very little difference in performance. Also you can use a divider when overclocking so that doesn't effect performance in a negative way. You can also get about 2Gb of Value stuff for like $160. If you want to go all out and buy the best RAM available the fine, but I myself cannot see justifying it.

Meh, i know timings aren't terribly important, but i just don't like the idea of downgrading to 3-4-4...i find even with my Corsair VS that things feel snappier when @ 2.5-3-3 vs. 3-4-4.

Maybe i'm just imagining it though iono...

As for dividers...yes dividers are a close friend ;)

n7, i'd buy from tankguys as i prefer to have a middle man to beat up if there is a problem, lol. they'll listen to someone who does a ton of modules over a guy who bought a couple stix. just imo.

right now 255x10, no change in timings, just priming a bit before hitting 260x10.

Crucial Value 1GB sticks are amazing value. They're just speed binned Ballistix without heat spreaders.

Consequently, many are reporting hitting around 250mhz at 3-3-3 or alternative 200mhz 2.5-2-2 this is all at a low voltage of 2.8V. Pretty damn impressive.

Mind still not quite as impressive as the 1GB Ballistix sticks where reports have been of them doing 250mhz at 2.5-2-2 and even going as high as 290mhz at looser timings.... :Q

many? link?

i've seen 1 person hitting 275 with the ballistix pc4000 over at xs. and 1 hit 250 with 3-3-3-10 with the value. some said they're having trouble at stock.

oh, and hard oc has a couple at 3-3-3-8 250.

even with your edits i'd like to see some of those numbers. all i see is nugs kicking butt at 280mhz 3-3-3-8 with the ballistix. i don't visit every forum though so maybe i'm missing them.

Ballistix I read about them at Xtremesystems actually.

No doubt is still a matter of luck.

Regarding the Crucial Value - I can't remember where I remember reading about them. Again it's luck of the draw especially as they're speed binned Ballistix but it seems 240-250mhz is typical at 3-3-3.

Actually a AT member here has them running at 3-3-3 albeit at 2.6V - I suppose pushing a bit more and upping the voltage that could be increased.

Anyhow, if Muskin do that speeds and indeed can do it consistently I think we have a new winner here. Very impressive OC. Congrats.

Now I wonder if anywhere in the UK does MUskin?

i'm not saying it can't be done and i didn't mean to imply that my results are typical of the mushkin. thats kind of why i was asking if anyone had infineon chips of late and particularly the mushkins.

i was more taking issue with you constantly recommending the crucial value as consistently hitting 240-250 because i haven't seen that. xtreme has one guy hitting 239 at 3-4-3-8, 2x1024. hard forums has one hitting 3-3-3-8 250mhz. everything else is ballistix. and people are even having trouble with hitting 260 with the ballistix thats rated at 250.

http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/showthread.php?t=67762
http://www.hardforum.com/showthread.php?t=921689

i've looked through oc systems and extreme oc'ers and still nothing like you're saying.

i have nothing against ballistix or the value, i hear its great ram. its just that you're leading people astray by indicating 240 and above is "typical" with your numbers.

as far as buying in the uk, i wonder if tank guys can accomodate you. i just found out they ship to canada so maybe, i dunno.

also, i hear ocz is coming out with 2.5-3-3-8 ddr500 soon but i'm afraid to see the $$. thats why i want to se the numbers that ballistix can hit.

Also just a heads up for UK buyers I guess with Muskin being difficult to get; Crucial are doing a 4% discoutn on their RAM.

Check for the code here
