Looking for 2.1 computer speakers with shielded cable.

I've been having problems with my computer speakers making really terrible, loud bursts of static whenever I adjust the volume. Whenever I move them a good distance from my monitor, the problem goes away. So I figure this has to be some sort of EM interference from the monitor.

Unfortunately, due to the way my desk is set up, there really isn't any way I can keep the speakers anywhere but relatively close to the monitor. So now I'm wondering if it's possible to get computer speakers (2.1 channel setup, preferably) with shielded cables. I'd simply replace the cabling in these speakers, but (of course) they're hardwired directly into the units.

Any suggestions?

if you can't find any buy a set of 2.1 speakers and replace the cable with shielded cable, it's a relatively simple exercise if you know how to use a soldering iron.

i am going go guess that the pot on the volume control is messed up. you would probably be fine getting a new set of speakers. what is the current model?

Let's see... They are Altec Lansing, and the number on the back of the speakers is VS2221.

Try turning the volume all the way up and down quickly a dozen times or so. It may be that you have some dust or something in it which is causing the static sound.

Well I'll be damned. For the moment at least, this seems to have fixed it. I guess the proximity-to-the-monitor business must have been a coincidence.
