I'm looking for a PC monitor that will primarily be used for console games (X-Box 360 and PS3).

So far I've had pretty bad luck with...

I tried the Dell 2408 but I really didn't like the wide gamut so I want something that isn't wide gamut.

I also want 1920x1080 since this will be used primarily for 720p/1080p gaming.

The Dell ST2410 ($250) was working great but it does NOT work properly with the PS3 at 1080p. I've exchanged the monitor and the new one has the same problem.

So, what choices do I have?

To summarize what I want:

* 24" - 26"
* 1920X1080 native
* HDCP
* 720p must look good (since almost all PS3 games output at 720p)

I'd say I'm willing to go as high as $500 or so and an IPS panel would be great.

Can anybody give me any suggestions?

EDIT: What about the Samsung 2494SW, Asus VW246H or Samsung T260HD (T260HD is 1920x1200 which I didn't realize)?

I would go with any 1920x1200 display hands down over a 1920x1080 one, but that's just because of the vertical viewing space.

Thanks, but I plan to use the monitor for PS3/360 gaming which is 720/1080p and not 1200p.

If I bought a 1920x1200 monitor, I would always have black bars or I would always have to stretch the picture...

Samsung F2380. It's not 24", but 23" - however it's 1920x1080 and PVA which is what you're looking for.

If native 1080p and PVA are your priorities, you might want to have a look at it - here's a review:

http://www.xbitlabs.com/articles/monitors/display/samsung-sm-f2080-f2380.html

Though I don't think it has HDMI? But the two DVI inputs are HDCP compliant - I think the Xbox has DVI (don't remember though - I'm using HDMI). If not, you can always get a DVI->HDMI converter.

Thanks for the suggestion! I just ordered the Asus VW246H so hopefully it's decent but that Samsung looks tempting too espicially since it's a cPVA panel.

It's very, very, VERY difficult in choosing a monitor especially when you can't just go to a store and see them! I'm tempted to just order that Samsung and then compare it to the VW246H but perhaps I'll just wait. A couple of reviews were pretty harsh on the Samsung...

I see you've already pulled the trigger, but if you are not satisfied with the Asus VW246H, you may want to look into the NEC EA231WMi.

The EA231WMi is 23" 1920x1080 IPS, and can be had for around $330, which is a fair price for an IPS monitor. In fact, I think I'll be purchasing it myself shortly.

I thought about that monitor too, but it seems to have fairly high input lag which isn't good for gaming (the primary purpose of the monitor for me). I also heard it has a grainy anti-glare coating which bothers some people.

I wish I could just see all these different monitors in a store so I could directly compare them instead of ordering, returning, etc...

It seems that all IPS monitors are getting some criticism about their aggressive anti-glare coating these days, except perhaps for the Apple IPS LCDs which are glossy.

Like you, I also wish there was a store that carried higher end (hell, mid-range even) LCD monitors so you could check them out. Back in 2004 I was able to pick up my Samsung 193P at Frys (I think I paid $700 at the time), and I was fine with paying more knowing I could return it if there were any serious problems. I don't think that there are literally any stores that carry the higher end monitors, except of course the Apple store. Damn you, Apple.

I have an Asus VW246H and find its fine for gaming,do remember its a TN panel, however its probably one of the top TN LCDs IMHO,minimal input lag and a good choice for gaming,colours are very good for TN panel,only weakness I would say it has typical TN viewing angles however thats to be expected.

Well, I got my VW246H yesterday and was pretty happy, but believe it or not I think I prefer my Dell ST2410. It has much better contrast but a slightly worse viewing angle and the colors are a little "off" but overall for some reason I think I prefer it...

I'd like to see that Samsung monitor but some of the reviews don't make it sound too good and it doesn't have HDMI for some odd reason... (I could use HDMI-to-DVI but still...)
