Haven't posted in a while, and don't really know much about the products available in this range or how they differ from computer LCDs other than maybe input type, so maybe on of you guys can help me out.

Looking for a replacement for a 20 year old 19" Sharp CRT that just stopped working. Doesn't have to be too fancy, though an HDMI in wouldn't hurt, and I'm looking for something with speakers (again, don't have to be great speakers).

Acer 21.5" 1080p for $190 shipped or Asus 24" 1080p for $300 shipped. Both TN panels, but that's pretty much what you have to work with in this price range.

Of course, if you want one with a built-in tuner, that would be more... But you probably need an HD cable box or Tivo anyway.

But then what do you do about volume control?

Most cable boxes let you vary the box's sound level instead of the TV's, if that's what you mean. Or just use the volume controls on the monitor itself.

These are all terrible options. None of them are 16:9 (widescreen TV ratio), and none of them properly letterbox 16:9 images onto the 16:10 screen. The HP definitely -- and the others quite possibly -- can't even handle a 1080i/1080p signal.

Utterly useless for TV use.

I'm was a little confused (not a big surprise) by the OP wanting to replace a 19-inch CRT with an LCD TV - and not to split hairs but none of our suggestions are an 'LCD TV' like these.

Using the 1920x1080 native resolution of an 1080p LCD TV in the low 20-inch range might take a little getting used to as a computer monitor ... the 'TVs' above are 1440 x 900 and 1366 x 768 '720p' 16:9s and 16:10s.

This is the audio/video forum, not the graphics forum. It's obvious he wants to watch movies and TV.
