Hello,

Currently I am on the Viewsonic VX2025wm as a primary model. I plan on keeping it and using it in portrait mode for viewing css code / new sites / convos etc.

I also want to get a new primary monitor. I am hoping for 30"+ maximum price of about $1500, but hopefully around $1000.

Here is what I want to do with the monitor:
  • Games - I play Crysis, UTIII, TF2
  • Photography / Photoshop - I am an avid photographer
  • Hoping For 2560x1600, but not necessary, no lower than 1900x1200 though
  • Home theater / displaying hd dvd
  • Not Totally Necessary but was hoping to hook up a wii to it, perhaps a 360

I should have no problems running at this resolution, as I currently have
Core 2 Duo E6850
4gb Patriot Performance Ram
8800gtx 768mb
Logitech Z-5500

My options as I see them currently:
Samsung 305t- Seems to be the best bang for the buck
Dell 3007wfp - Seems like a good contender
Dell 2707 - Smaller than I would like and less resolution than the 30"
Gateway XHD - Keeping hearing about terrible input lag at non native resolution.
Sharp Aquos LC-32GP3U-R - Looks like it could be good but want to see user experiance / picks

Anyone have any good experiences / monitors that I do not have listed, and want to help me decide?

If anyone else is in the market I suggest they read through this thread as well, since it gave me some good insight:

I'd go with a 30" model....since you are already at 1600x1200, upgrading to a 1920x1200 doesn't add many pixels.

I got a 3007WFP around Christmas, and *love* it. I have a Q6600 with a 8800GT, and don't have problems with gaming (no Crysis though).

One thing to note is that several of the monitors you listed are "wide gamut", which means they display a larger color range then regular monitors. If you are into editing/retouching photos, you can get some "off" colors in your pictures when you view them on someone else's monitor. You might want to consider getting a hardware calibration device if you are serious about photo editing.

There is a benefit to using your 20" in portrait mode. The pixel pitch is the same as a 30" monitor, and the vertical resolution will be the same 1600. They will match up exactly next to one another

I have a Dell 3007wfp HC. It awesome. I tried a 20 in portrait next to it and found it was way overkill for my needs so I got rid of it.

It is a great monitor. I love the 2560x1600. In retrospect, since I use it mainly for movies in and games, I would be better served by something like a 37 Westy. Oh well, it looks like I'm stuck with this aweful Dell 3007. :p

Haha well if you want to "upgrade" to the west, Ill kindly pay shipping so you don't have to have it sitting all around your house anymore, taking up space.
