You boy racers would cream your pants if you ever got to drive a real car, that didn't have several feet of linkage between you and the gearbox, or clutch.

So how does the clutch and throttle connect in your car?

WiFi? :p

Probably someone who lives in Seattle or San Fransisco.

And your sig should probably read "when a Chevy Cavalier isn't fast enough to drag race..."

Seattle here, and I STILL say manual > * for everything except drag racing.

slap a supercharger on a newer maxima and i hear it gets like +180 hp..... then give it like a chip mod and you're past 500 (stock is ~260hp on my dad's 2003). man that car would be so damn quick if he modded it.

500 bhp with fwd = a truly weird-handling beastie

I live in Seattle and drive a standard too, but for a lot of the people who get stuck in rush hour on the hills, it would be a pain. It wears your clutch more and that's just no fun to replace.

AT is the only group of people I know that prefer manual over automatic. 90% of the USA uses automatic. Yea you get lower fuel economy and you pay more for the car, but then I enjoy the ablity to sit back, tune out, and just drive.

Is it true that a car with manual transmission costs more to build than automatic, but since its automatic, it has to cost more?

questions
1. Do you like driving a manual transmission vehicle
2. Does the vehicle come in manual

if yes to 2 above
3. will this be a vehicle used for towing or in large cities (lots of traffic that could make shifting annoying for some people)

if no for question 3 and yes to questions 1 and 2 then get yourself a manual transmission (and a vehicle to go with it)

I don't follow your last line. Do you mean it costs auto makers more to built manuals but they charge more for automatics by convention?

5 - SPEEED!!!!

IF YOU HAVEN"T DRIVEN A 5-SPEED MAXIMA, DO SO NOW!!!

then drive an automatic and look at the difference. It's like driving two different <A TITLE="Click for more information about <A TITLE="Click for more information about car" STYLE="text-decoration: none; border-bottom: medium solid green;" HREF="http://search.targetwords.com/u.search?x=5977|1||||cars|AA1VDw">car</A>" STYLE="text-decoration: none; border-bottom: medium solid green;" HREF="http://search.targetwords.com/u.search?x=5977|1||||cars|AA1VDw">car</A>s.

The 5-spd is just FAR more fun to drive.

I've driven both a 99 Maxima 5-spd and a 99 Maxima auto. The 5-spd is just 10000x better. The entire experience is much better. The tire spin into 2nd and the chirp into 3rd as you neck snaps back...its just insane. The 5-spd makes the Maxima feel much more powerful than it really is.

Then you get on the highway, say your cruising at about 65mph on the highway..and you need to pass someone...just downshift into 3rd and feel God just slap you forward.

Wow, somebody's never ridden in a fast car before. :D

fastest car i've been in is a slightly modded 5-spd 90 Mustang 5.0...so I haven't been in anything crazy fast..altho the Stang was pretty damn fast. But your right...I do not know much about ultimate speed.

But in my post, I was talking about relative speed between a auto and 5-spd Maxima.

The 5-spd Maxima makes the auto feel like a Pinto with two cylinders missing. The car is just so much more livlier.

The numbers are reversed in most of the rest of the world. As I have said before in this context, Americans on the whole also like eating McDonald's and drinking swill like Budweiser. Most people who actually enjoy driving (as opposed to considering it a necessary evil) prefer stick. To each his own, but I find driving an automatic a little too much like being a passenger. Meh . . .

Err yea. Manual transmission more expensive than automatic transmission to make, but in the end, the car with automatic transmission costs more than the same model with manual.

90% of the US doesn't know how to drive, and only use cars for getting from point A to point B. I've learned not to trust the majority opinion on many issues.

and please tell me you don't "tune out" while you're piloting a 3000 pound chunk of metal at 80 MPH through the streets.

I agree that for someone who doesn't really like driving and just needs to get to work every morning, a manual doesn't make sense. But for the true drivers, there will always be stick :D

no they aren't slow...but they aren't 12-sec material to begin with either as the other poster mentioned. No way in hell it keeps up with a 12s car....unless its 12sec in the 1/8th mile :p

Maximas (atleast the 4th gen) makes it feel faster than it really is...thats why so many people love them. Altho they are fast...an NA modded auto Max can &amp; have hit high 14s and NA modded 5-spd are in the 13s. Actually there is one particular NA auto Maxima that is in the 13s...but that's a freak car..and the driver is pretty hardcore.

Of course, I personally ran a best of 16.00 in a auto Max...so yea...I suck.
