looking at buying a dell inspiron 9300

Get the 6800 if you plan on gaming. The X300 is slightly below the Mobility 9600 overall from what I've seen. I will have benchies of an X300 Sonoma P-M Fujitsu notebook soon, with an X300 T43 behind that; for comparison I already have benchies of a T42 R9600. Benchmark goodness 😀
 
I could barely stand playing HL2 on an overclocked 64MB Mobility 9600, so I'd say 6800 hands down, unless battery life is a major concern. I'd underclock the 6800 to the lowest possible 2D core speed using Coolbits if you do decide on it. I have my desktop's 6800GT downclock to 200MHz in 2D and it gets about 5C cooler and probably uses less power.
