looking at an alienware alx

I have built several custom systems. I really like the look of the alx alienware systems and have heard good things about them. I have also heard that you pay alot for the name brand. I havent built a custom system in a long time and was wondering to do a very close resemblance to an ALX system, liquid cooled case and all, how much do you think it would cost? The ones on alienwares site start at about 5k without moniter, have one already. So how much of that is for the system do you think and how much is marked up for alienware? Thanks a lot guys.

You'd have to price it all out. Here's what you'd get, ideally...

$787 Athlon 64 X2 4800+
$224 2GB OCZ Performance RAM
$78 NEC ND-3550A (two of them)
$214 250GB Seagate 7200.8 SATA (two of them)
$906 7800GTX (two of them)
$141 Epox 9NPA SLI
$98 500W Fortron Source PSU
some case you like

That's $2,448 + case + OS. If you want a snazzy sound card, add another $100. $10 for a floppy and/or modem. At most you'll still be under $2,800.

take the alienware price. take about 50% off the price depending on config and sales. that 50% gets you a 6.84 reseller rating company(average).

if you need prebuilt, go monarch. they charge you price of components at their store plus $90 to build it custom with great reseller ratings.

otherwise, use pricewatch to buy each component

you could drop the price lower buy buying 1 nec3550a. 2 optical drives are pretty worthless.

ok thanks a lot guys i will probably go custom again then. Where is a good place to get liquid cooled case setups?
