Looking at 3 x Samsung UD590 (3840x2160) for an 11520x2160 desktop

Looking for the ability to have six documents open at one time on a computer used primarily for research.

Right now I have a Dell 1200x1600 next to a Dell 2560x1600 next to a Dell 1200x1600 in a PLP configuration.

I like the idea of three Samsungs because I can get three of the UD390s for a little over $1K, which is right around what I will be able to sell my U3014 for.

Any reason I should not be considering this setup?

What kind of card are you going to drive this with? Before I moved I ran with this setup:

It's definitely awesome, and if you aren't going to game, it's a little easier to deal with. What OS will you be using? I've got two systems, each with a Quadro K1200 (4 mini DP connectors). The Ubuntu system experiences some pretty noticeable display lag when multiple windows are using GPU acceleration.

I have a GTX 950 with 3 display ports I was going to use, but would get another card if this one did not work.

Anyone else have input?

I have 2K-4K-2K triple monitor setup now, and would like to go triple 4K in the near future. I say do it, and report back! 😉

If your 950 has 3x DP 1.2 it should work. I was thinking of getting the 1050 when it comes out...

I used to do 6 document research on 3x1080p with each document taking half of each monitor via Windows Snap. It was a little cramped. I'd think 3x1440p is sufficient for the purpose, but if 4k isn't all that much more its probably worth it. Just saying if 1440p is less expensive I think that would meet the need.

Good 2560x1440 monitors are the same price as 3840x2160 these days, so you might as well go 4K and use 150% scaling.

That's how I run my 27UD68, same real estate as 1440p but text is crisper.
