I'm looking for recomendations for a 2 or 3 port powered FireWire card. It needs an internal port (preferablly just a header like MOBO's have) that I can then route to the FW port on the front of my case. It needs to be powered as my APPLE IPod recharges via the FW cable. Even better if it is a combo FW & USB 2.0 card :)

Thanks..

I know I/O gear makes a combo IEEE1394 (FW) & USB 2.0 Card with both external and internal connections.

The I/O card is listed under USB Devices, USB 2.0 Host Adapters (at the MH site), I know the are a few others there too. -john

Many local small shops carry these now. Most are 2-3 external +/- 1 internal port. I bought an Iwill (with VIA chipset) for about $30. Two external ports, and one internal. Works fine. So far I think all the cards I've seen have powered ports. I did buy a generic one though (Lucent chipset) which didn't work at all. My BX mobo didn't recognize it. The Iwill was recognized immediately and installed without drivers in XP.

Combo USB 2 and Firewire cards cost more than two separate cards strangely enough. By the way, if you're in the market for a new sound card, the Audigy includes a Firewire port.

By the way, why don't you just the AC adapter for your iPod?

Word. Although the Adaptec Duoconnect looks really sweet (matches all of the specs given by garcger), it costs quite a bit of change, ~$100.

Thanks -- I'll check all of those out -- regarding why not use the AC adapter -- just convience and cable clutter.

Most people will never use an internal connector.

The combo card looks OK but still costs more than two separate ones.
