Looking to replace my OS Drive, and looking for review/charts comparing a few drives.

Currently looking at

Western Digital Caviar SE16 WD6400AAKS 640GB 7200 RPM 16MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb/s Hard Drive
Western Digital Raptor WD1500ADFD 150GB 10000 RPM SATA 1.5Gb/s Hard Drive
SAMSUNG Spinpoint F1 HD753LJ 750GB 7200 RPM 32MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb/s Hard Drive
SAMSUNG Spinpoint F1 HD103UJ 1TB 7200 RPM 32MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb/s Hard Drive
Seagate Barracuda 7200.11 ST31000340AS 1TB 7200 RPM SATA 3.0Gb/s Hard Drive

I am looking for speed/performance for load times on OS+Games, my current focus is the WD640GB since they are $94 right now, pick up 2 and raid0? or faster single drive?

Trying to avoid the 150gb Raptor since i would like more space, but if the performance is really that much better, i will sacrifice the space.

Any suggestions?

You're not gonna get any better comparison charts than Tom's HW charts for 3.5" drives.

Wait 'till the page completely loads, go to the bottom drop down list and add all your "candidates", then go back to the top and choose the test you want.

Ya just can't get much better!

Go for the 300GB VelociRaptor.

I am not seeing the 640GB WD listed :(

out of the drives i listed that are on the chart, it isn't very consistent, every benchmark has a random best drive. they aren't exactly BETTER then one another.

.....Unless you throw the new VR into the mix. Then you have a winner!

I think the thing to do here is, pick the parameters that best fit your application.
Need lotsa room? Go big.
Want quiet? Go lower dB.
Low air flow? Pick a cooler running unit.

As you are discovering, one drive doesn't fit all purposes. If it did, we wouldn't have so many opinions as to which is the best.

I know you didn't ask, but IMHO, the Western Digital Caviar SE16 WD6400AAKS is a nice all around unit.
