i am getting a new IS7 with 2.4Ghz and 512mb corsair RAM
i will probably get an ATI Radeon 9700

i want a new hard drive too i was checkin em out
i want to do video editing and i heard its good to have a fast hard drive for that
i know very little about them i see things like 8ms and 8mb cache and 7200RPM

what i wanna know is who makes good harddrives that are compatable and fast
i dont need an SATA Drive IDE is fine
also i would like to know what that stuff means like when they say
8ms and 8mb cache and 7200 rpm and sometimes i see 800bb or 800jb

thx for reading 🙂
please help

First, there are two major cache sizes available, 2mb and 8mb. Cache is where is like RAM for the hard drive in a way but uses special algorythms and thereoms for what data to store. Larger = Better

JB = 8mb Cache
BB = 2mb Cache
Those only apply to Western Digital drives, its just a way of naming them.

8ms can be the seek time, generally, the lower the better. With a low seek time, things will load up faster and make the system feel more 'responsive'

If I were you, I'd get an 8mb Cache 7200 rpm drive. Since you're doing video editing, get the best your budget allows or how much you think you'll need.

Fastest PATA hard Drives available IMO are the Hitachi 180GXP's w/8MB cache but I would think you would want to utilize the SATA (esp RAID for Vid editing) on that MoBo.

i dunno about Raid dont really like it
i will check out Hitachi thx for the help

is SATA noticeably faster than IDE?

Much Much faster esp with the MoBo you chose...you can read some info HERE and on Docs website about SATA and the MoBo as well as Anands.
