You can't fault the car for failing to work properly without transmission fluid.Originally posted by: Skoorb
btW in regards to trannies I owned an 89 Accord. I bought it with 182,000 KM On it and the tranny died around 195. Peace of sh*t. THe tranny fluid had been leaking for months and I didnd't know it and neither did the guy at canadian tire when I asked him "whats that smell of gas". It was leaking tranny fluid. Bye bye tranny!
No way a good car wouldn't have leaked that damn fluid!Originally posted by: Zenmervolt

I bought it and drove it home on Saturday. This car is amazing and has been maintained really really well. The guy who owned it babied it and everything works great. The engine is so strong and pulls hard. The ride is smooth and plush for an A1 VW. It was a great purchase and I love it, rides like a dream. I was doing over 110 mph going North on the Jersy Tpk and the car was solid like a rock.

The 80's were bad years for VW's. Plus most of the "bells & whistles" from that generation VW break fast (automatic windows/sunroof etc...).
Remember the Quantum???
A guy told me about a car his friend bought for $500, drove it for two years with little in issues, and sold it for like $700 or something like thatOriginally posted by: Stifko

200K on the engine & tranny, thanks to those that congratulated me and had some positive words !!!
the 16V motor, transmission and front axle came from a 87 Scirocco. He did a beautiful job installing it. The car is so nice, for 700 a steal !!!!

What more could you want in NYC? I mean, the car with the most body damage generally has the right of way there, right? Looks bad, runs good, that's the $mart way to own a car in a city, IMHO.
