This deal was ripped from Sp**fee.com.

edit Sorry guys, I was in a hurry when posting this and didn't check to see if everything would go through. Didn't mean to get everyone's hopes up. I promise my next hot deal post will be good.

It is noted as a risk takers deal.

Staples has the Maxtor 40GB 7200rpm harddrive with 2 rebates. They both go to different numbered departments and the rebates end on different days as well. The rebate seems to work and the Staples rebate customer service is usually nice about it.

1)Go to Staples.com and search for 428386 ( 40GB HD : $89.94 )
2)Search and Add 489624 ( Media Reader : $29.99 )
3)Use a $20 off instant coupon (find at your fav. deals site)
4)Media Reader $30 rebate HERE
5)Make 3 copies of your UPC
6)Maxtor $30 rebate HERE (use original UPC)
7)Staples $30 Rebate HERE (mail copy of UPC)
8)If they reject the copy of your UPC, call 1-888-856-9210 to have them validate it. Tell them you had to use the original UPC for a manufacturer rebate.
*************************
Regular Price = $120 + shipping
Final Price =$10 shipped After Rebates

Yeah, but...I don't like waiting for over 80% of the total cost to come back in rebates.....Sounds great, but I don't have the cash or the time to wait on it :)

Not to mention the Sandisk USB Media reader offer is valid for Staples B&M only as states on the on the rebate form and verifed by the rebate center. Staples is now using speciifc rebate offers for B&M vs .com and pjone orders.

Also i wonder how long the rebate centers are going to let everyone get away with double dipping rebates EVERYONE knows that its only suppose to be one rebate. I almost would call it rebate fraud but i won't I am sure it will be stopped very soon.

It is not "double dipping" since one of the rebates is specific to Staples and one is specific to Staples.com. As metioned earlier, rebates are now Staples business channel specific as clearly stated on the rebates. The older Staples rebates use to state they were valid for purchases from any Staples business channel including Staples stores, Staples.com and Staples direct. However, they no longer state this and instead specifically state which business channel th rebate is valid. Contrary to popular belief, neither Maxtor rebate is a Staples rebate and both are offered directly from Maxtor. Don't believe it, them simply fillout the online rebate form (you do not need the product for this) and wait for the confirmation emails. (The online rebate form for the Maxtor rebate offer posted on their site is available at rebateshq.com) The confirmation emails for both offers are from Maxtor and not the Staples rebate center. Some have reported on similar deals that they have been able to call in and get a validation on erviously deined rebates due to copies, but to date none of these have been paid to date according according to the rebates CSR @ 888-241-6208.

I see the exact same address and terms for the Staples/Maxotr $30 rebate as the $30 rebate on the Maxtor site. The proposal to submit dual rebate requests to Staples and Maxtor comes up all the time-I doubt it ever works.

So I see this as a $40 deal for a 40 gig hard drive and the card reader.

Staples rebate center is just processing rebates for MAXTOR corp the money is not coming from Staples thay get paid from Maxtor to fufill rebates no matter how you look at it you are double dipping rebates.

Plan on receiving only one of the Maxtor rebates (making deal +$40 after rebates) because both rebates go to the same address:

( Dept. 02-49609 ), P.O. Box 028515, Miami FL 33102-8515

and the important thing is that the first line Dept. 02-49609 is identical for both rebates and this is the criteria used to determine if rebates are the same (at least every place I've checked before including Staples).

No offense meant to the poster of this deal, im sure you meant to be helpful!

Yet, I am really tired of seeing all these crazy rebate deals that almost never work. I remember a time when hot deals were hot deals that didnt include something that bordered on scamming multiple rebates.
im tired of getting excited at seeing these posts, and then crashing when I realize I have about as much chance at getting this to go through, as I do of traveling backwards in time and nailing cindy crawford in late 80's when she was still ridiculously hot.

So in the future I hope people can either not post these deals, or at the very least put "this deal is extremley risky/lame and probably wont work" in the topic

sorry for being cranky, but I would like to see a deal come bye once in awhile that actually has a good chance of working without having to defraud someone, or hold the daughter of a B&M office store manager hostage in order to get him to PM to some obscure website and then apply 14 different coupons (including online coupon codes) as well as the grocery store bottle reciept slip and an expired coupon from 1993 for depends adult diapers to your order to make the deal go through.

where do you find the 02-49609? I can see two different promotion numbers on the two rebates. One is 02-49609, the other is 02-49443.

You are absolutely correct. I was just pointing out the fact that the mere existance of multiple rebates is not double dipping since Staples is now differentiating rebate programs betwen Staples business channels. Staples is [b[not[/b] advertising two rebates anywhere with the maxtor deals on any of their product pages at Staples.com or in their stores. These dual and triple rebates are assumption on the part of the people posting this crap There is only one valid rebate promo on Maxtor drive purchase at Staples and depending on which business channel that you purchase your Maxtor drive through will ldetermine wihich rebate you need to send in. If some is stupid enought to send in multiple rebates for the same product when it was never advertised well then that is clear cut fraud and stated on all Staples rebate forms....

Fraudulent submission of multiple requests could result in federal prosecution under the U.S. Mail Fraud Statutes (18 USC, Section 1341 & 1342).

I finally found the McAllen rebate (second page of Staples rebate center). Before I was looking at the Miami rebate at Staples rebate center and it does go to the same address. Both the Miami and McAllen rebates are different as you say but both say the original UPC is required (no copies) so it may not work. It's probably best to call about it to see if UPC copies will be accepted (although rebate says no).

They are still both Maxtor manufacter rebates and both are still processed by Parago. One Maxtor ofer is valid for Staples.com pruchase and the other Staples B&M purchases as clearly stated on the rebate forms. Parago is in the process of moving from McAllen TX to Miami FL and that is why you see two different address, but they are still processed by Parago.

I see now that one says Staples.com Implicitly this would mean that the one that said staples would be B&M.

You have to read both rebates "fineprint" closely and compare them.
