also got an x800xl at compusa today for 300

i cannot wait to put this thing together

That Antec True430 is not a good choice of PSU for a Silverstone HTPC case.

For a horizontal desktop HTPC case like that LC10, you really should get a PSU with a 120mm fan to help with venting. And a 120mm-fan PSU will be a lot quieter than the double 80mm eggbeaters in the Antec.

I would also buy a Zalman CNPS7000 for that A64 CPU-- Quieter than the stock CPU cooler.

thanks for the responses... sorry, just back from the bar, had to celebrate st pattys. anyway, you are probably right about the PS, i kinda just got the antec because i know that they are a real reputable company, and that their power is legit, i didnt want something bugging on me if i added another hd and some pci cards. but i didnt really lookin into the noise factor of the antec. i really want my rig to be quiet, which it should be as an htpc. so im gonna try to get the seasonic with the 120mm fan for 89. for a small price difference it should be worth it to my ears when im watching a dvd thru the htpc. wish you had responded to my thread before when i was lookin for a PS suggestion, cuz that area is kinda foriegn to me as this is my first real bad ass computer. i have a dell laptop now

those 26A on the 12v rail blinded me... the seasonic looks like a good PS and should last me thru my next build in 3 yrs, which im sure will be dual core and power hungry video

i'd be willing to be you're going to want another 512meg for that system. Otherwise, absolutely. A very nice system. (And RAM is probably the easiest thing to add later. if 512 doesn't work for you, just get another stick)

HD 200GB| SEAGATE 7200 ST3200822AS%
Item# N82E16822148033
$123.00 (62c/gig)

alright price, but you could have purchased two 160 gigers (44c/gig) for $139.98
here

I saw that you are getting MCE 2005 but I don't see anywhere you have listed a TV tuner or remote. If you are aiming for this to be a full HTPC, I would think that you would want to use MCE to its fullest potention with these items. I know I've added two TV tuners to my PC and I've never looked back. I love being able to watch what I want when I want and skip through most of the commercials. I know you can get a Hauppauge PVR-150MCE for around $70. The remote will probably run you another $40-$50. These are things you can add later as funds are available.

dremot, i do plan on getting a tv card down the road. i'll be moving in a few months though and want to wait till then to buy one. if where i move i will be using over the air HD, i'll want to get an HD tuner. if comcast offers good HD service in colorado, then i'll probably just get a regular capture card, along with another nice sized hard drive.

at that time, or sooner, i will get one of the good 3rd party remotes, after i get a feel for the OS. the last thing i need is another remote control, but if its very functional, i wont mind dropping the cash to fill the system out.

ribbon, is this the best seasonic model to go with the silverstone case : SUPER TORNADO-400W

its got a huge fan, but is on top of the PS. this shouldnt cause an issue should it ? i want to get this order in quickly so it will ship with the rest of my stuff. ive read that this PS is very quiet

Yep, the Seasonic ST400 is the best PSU for an HTPC case like the LC10 you are getting. That huge fan basically sits next to your CPU and vents the hot air coming off the CPU heatsink out of the case. For a desktop horizontal case, this is especially necessary because of the lack of convection (which tower cases have).

I'm using a Seasonic Super Tornado in my Silverstone LC03 case. Works very well.

HTH.

at least i'll only be waiting till monday or tuesday to get my computer running, sure beats waiting 3 weeks for a Dell.

my tv room already has a lot of ambient noise, (over head fan, air purifier, dogs etc) but i still didnt want a noisy POS PSU to add to it. cant wait to have my computer under the tv on the rack. anyone know where i could find a cheap but good 20foot usb cable to connect my usb hub to near the couch ? i'd like to do wireless at some point, but will still need a long usb because i have an external usb sound card which has to be within 5 feet of the sub (for wire length reasons, i think that running 4 parallel analog mini jack wires like that would lead to degradation). anyone know the distance rating for usb using a powered usb hub at the end ?

yeah, whoops. I missed that the RAM you got was a dual channel back. my fault. 1GB should definately be fine for that system

If he gets another stick or ram he'd actually lose performance as he'd have to run at 2T instead of 1 and the extra memory would do nothing.

i thought about going with the monarch deal, but i already have far cry, and prefered to have hl2 on disk so it could be the first game i play on my new computer.
