Look what I found today

I was looking for something in a closet in my house today when I came across an old, dusty brown bag that was sitting in the back of the closet behind a bunch of other stuff. My curiosity piqued, I took the brown case and opened up to find this. It turns out that my dad got this Pentax ME Super way back in the day and has kept it all of this time.

Props to my dad for keeping all of the original manuals, a cleaning kit and pretty much everything else that came with the camera. This is what was in the case:

- Pentax ME Super Camera
- Pentax 50mm Prime lens (?)
- Vivitar 70-210mm f4.5 Macro
- 2 Polarizing(?) filters
- Pentax flash
- Cleaning kit
- A bunch of original manuals and stuff

I know this should probably go in the camera porn thread, but I was so excited that I just had to make a new thread. :D

I'm going to talk to my dad about it later tonight when he gets home and probably get some film and shoot some pictures with this baby. :)

Oh really? I didn't know that. How much do you think something like it would be worth?

Yeah lenses are a killer. I was going to sell my kit lens and buy a 18-200mm but it's $655. :(

~$75? a lot of pentax MEs were made. so it's not as collectable as the olympus OM series (also very small) and the pentax MX (mechanical camera in the same body, often thought of as a miniaturized KX).

Oh ok. I'm not going to sell it, not only because it's not mine to sell, but because I want to get some film and shoot with it. :p

another nice thing about it is that it takes standard LR44/SR44 watch batteries. the batteries for a lot of older cameras have been discontinued (mercury) and the replacements have various issues (although, a stack of air-cell batteries costs almost nothing and each cell lasts several months, even longer if you tape it back up)

using the finder on that ME will spoil you. it's one of the largest ever made, at .92x magnification. a 1Ds has .76x. the D3 is .7x. that makes the ME finder almost twice the size of the D3's.

the MX is even better (worse?) at .95x.

Man, I found one of those on craigslist and absolutely loved it. Left it in my car one night like a dipshit and it was promptly stolen. Awesome camera. I have a K1000 now and it's cool, but man... I loved that super.

Reminds me of when I found my dad's old Russian Zenit

I see you posted in that thread too :p

I love film cameras! You really have to value each shot. Especially if the film is expensive ;)

Man, I posted it that thread like 2 years ago... I didn't even remember haha.

But yeah, I'm going to get some nice B&W film if I can find it and do some shooting. Maybe I'll even enter one of my shots from it in the photo contest, we'll see. :)

Yeah the MX non super is slightly bigger. I have it, it is a truly amazing finder, especially when I mount my 16mm fisheye on it. :)

Nice :)

My folks have a couple of OM-2s in super condition with a few very nice lenses, and they're an absolute joy to use

Wait, it was the MX I wanted, not the ME. Either way, I agree on the viewfinder. My pidly K1000 makes me cry some vs my 20D
