C=64 was the greatest PC evar.

Had so much fun playing games and programming in Basic, then eventually assembly, on that thing back in the 80's

I have been on a mission to reinvigorate my Commodores lately. My C64 and 128 probably haven't been powered on in 16 or 17 years, until this past weekend.

Both powered on fine! Tonight I hooked a 1571 drive up to the 128 and decided to give a couple of games a spin. Unfortunately my disks haven't been optimally stored so I expect the worst. However, the first two games I tried (Star Rank Boxing and Dr. J vs. Larry Bird) loaded up like a charm! I am pretty ecstatic and hopeful that the thousands of games I have will load up. Now I just have to find a place for the 128, the drive, and preferably the old 1701 monitor. Right now, I have it hooked to my U2410 and the colors look washed out.

When I moved, I was a bonehead and threw a disk bank of utilities away. I hope there was nothing good in there. :(

Ahhh the good ol' commodore. I remember well typing Load"*",8,1 to get the directory of my discs on the 1541 floppy drive.

My brother and I used to play Dr J. & Larry Bird! I also LOVED the Epyx "games" series (summer games, winter games, summer games II) and for some extra fun - JUMPMAN!

What was it to load off the tape drive and did the cartridges autoload? It's been forever ago, I can't remember. I do remember summer games though, we went thru a shit load of joysticks. This is the type we used. http://www.gamertell.com/gaming/comment/gamertell-review-wicos-command-control-joystick/

Under Commodore Basic V2.0, the tape drive was the default device for load. Just type Load "name of program" and it would look for the tape drive. The device number is 1.

Cartridges were auto-load on start up.

I just ordered 2 new joysticks off of eBay and some components to build a cable to hook my C64 and C128 up to the plasma TV in my man cave. I'm hoping the brothers will come over for some Summer Games goodness.

the C128 has an RGB video out. An old CGA 9 pin video cable should fit.

It will, but I need to connect this to a plasma. So my choices are rather limited, but I learned that the DIN connector on the back of the machines actually outputs S-Video which is perfect. I just need to adapt it to the standard S-video plug and I will have C64 goodness on my 42" 1080P man cave plasma. :awe:

EDIT: If you have the DIN to RCA cable, you can actually plug one of the video plugs straight into a composite jack. The colors look washed out, but you can see everything.

what about using the PC connector on the back of the TV? Just make a patch cable from 9 pin to VGA?

I have both kinds of din cables.

My plasma has no VGA or DVI, just HDMI (plus component, s-video, and composite). All I need to do to connect it to S-Video is to take 2 female RCA jacks and connect them to the correct pins on the S-Video plug, so it won't be hard.

I had one of those! I still have my C64 and drive. I think I also have my Bards Tale floppies too. I gave my pad away to my friend who was an artist back in high school though.
