This were I keep debating at. want to try to OC but the room the PC will be in is not the coolest room in the house. Tempted to but a Asus Rampage to be sure to be Abel to get a decent OC but no it is not a guaranty.

Thanks in advance for any help ideas on this build, goal is to keep this at $1000 - $1100 or less. Will be running widows vista 64bit ultimate on it too.

One other question will the MB audio work in Vista 64 bit and if not what sound can works good

DDR2-800 will take either of those two chips you chose to 3.6GHz. That's about the limit of the Q6600. The E8400 will go farther, but DDR2-1000 is enough to max out the dual core, and is less expensive than DDR2-1066.

You're not going to get that much better overclocking out of the Rampage. Certainly not enough to justify the extra expense. A basic P35 board shouldn't have trouble bringing a Q6600 to 3.0Ghz.

Again, the Q6600 shouldn't have a problem getting to that speed. The E8400 will do it with less heat though, and it doesn't sound like you're going to have much use for the extra two cores.
