Or maybe she had to get somewhere and it was critical for her job, her kids, her bodily functions, her health...

People who think they can read the minds of other drivers are just as arrogant and assholish.

How was she getting any where quicker when the cars were stopped at a red light?

No kidding, if it was really that important they could leave a little earlier. The people that weave in and out of traffic to gain that one spot are total douche drivers. If everyone would just pick a lane and stay there we would all get to where we are going faster.

In Ca;

Traffic in one lane stops, all the cars in that lane jump to the next lane, that lane stops because of the flood of cars that moved to the moving lane, the original lane that was stopped then starts and moves because so many cars left it, then the idiots that moved to the other lane all jump back over again causing that lane to stop once more... Lather rince repeat... Damn morons

I developed a sort of sixth sense for shitty drivers.
One sure fire way to tell if a person is unsafe:
They are the first one too and sitting at a four way stop, if they wait for the other cars to stop before they go, they don't have a clue how to drive.

They just don't know the rules for a 4 way stop.

Still, many of us know rules just fine but are not bound by them. I don't completely STOP at a 4 way stop sign if there is no intersecting traffic, it's stupid to unless you know there's a cop or something.

yup, it's so fucking dumb. I'm not doing 50 and leaving 6-8 car lengths because I'm trying to slow up traffic. I'm doing 50 and leaving 6-8 car lengths because there's a shit load of traffic and I don't want to have to make any extremely abrupt stops that could cause an accident or further impede traffic.

*shrug* I'll merge in front of someone if there's enough room... albeit, I don't mean "enough room" as in "a few inches between bumpers on each side" :p.

Although, what would cause you to make said extremely abrupt stop? Is this one of those "what if!?" situations? The one complaint I've received about my driving (from people down here) is that I stop too close to the person in front of me at a red light. I ask them why it's an issue, and I hear, "what if the person behind you hits you!?" What is it with these rare occurring "what ifs"? I leave less space because I want to fit more people in... this isn't some silly random occurrence... heavy traffic isn't uncommon :p.

Also hate people that don't know how to get on a freeway. The ones that just cruise on over without any concern of how fast the flow of traffic is going. People, you need to pick your spot, either speed up to get ahead of the oncoming car or let that car pass and fall in behind. Don't expect me to slam on my brakes to let you in!

Perhaps you should consider MOVING OVER to let people merge onto the freeway/highway? It's funny, because in southern-tier New York, people would move over often to let you on the highway, but in the south ("southern hospitality"), they won't move over at all. This is even worse when other drivers are very slow on on-ramps and refuse to use the entire thing to gain speed. The point of a long ramp is to get close to the highway/freeway's speed to facilitate merging into the flow of traffic. For example, we have a nice long on-ramp to a 65mph road here, and I easily get to 70mph before I merge. If I'm stuck behind someone, I may hit 50mph, because they won't go any faster.

I have a similar issue with people braking before they get on the off-ramp. There's this one off-ramp where I see people do that often, but what grinds my gears about that specific ramp is that I never touch the brake on it at all (given no one in front of me). It's a great wonder how much you can just coast and let your speed naturally drop off to safe levels. Braking is wasting momentum which is wasting gas. It also makes me wonder why people love to brake down hills just because they're slightly exceeding the speed limit... why not use the "free" momentum to your advantage?

I'm trying to figure out how ppl from the "Northeast" scored the lowest on this test...

Probably referring to people from New England :p.

I believe there are two basic bad drivers, and I've posted this before but cant find it, so I will summarize here:

1. Space head.
Not paying attention, either doesnt know the rules of the road or is always too distracted. Usually not deliberately dangerous, just doesnt have their head in the game. Can normally be avoided, but as their lack of attention makes them random, they can be extremely dangerous and unpredictable.
Does not care if he/she is a good driver, cuz he never thinks about it.

2. Mario Andretti wannabe.
Thinks he is an awesome driver. Does whatever he wants, laws and safety be damned. Easy to spot cuz they are normally consistent in their stupidity. Best to just wait for them to get their position and move away from you.

I believe a lot of ATOT guys fall into number 2. The clueless people never think or talk about their driving habits, they have no idea how bad they are. But if you routinely feel the need to rationalize your law breaking, you are a racer wannabe.

Mosh, it's probably because they didn't even bother testing people from California!

the correct action to take when approaching a steady yellow traffic light.
Seriously? Someone gets this wrong? How shocking!! Of course, it all depends on who you talk to, and where they live and drive.....but I bet the most common answer was "speed up". :sneaky:

I have no need to rationalize my law breaking. It's a simple matter of some laws directly obstructing my will and the inconsequentiality of breaking it.

I have a 5-way stop just down the street from me. Always good for the lulz. I was sad that they are finally turning it into a rotary this year, but then I remembered that most CT drivers have no idea how to work those either.

Anyway, back on topic, I'd just like to point out that a written test is no way to determine the ability of a person to operate a motor vehicle safely, as evidenced by the high scoring old people. Just because some 90yo knows who has the right of way at a stop sign doesn't help them if they can't see the other cars. Just because they know to use their blinker doesn't help if they can't turn their head more than 45 degrees to check their blind spot or if they can't see that their blinker has been on for the last 5 miles.

aikouka, do you live in Los Angeles and take the 405 every day? I drive 30 or so miles of it every day. I see that same shit everyday, there is always going to be traffic you can NEVER expect it to occur, when traffic is occuring leaving extra space between the car in front of me does TWO things like I mentioned. It lowers the chances of me having to come to an abrupt stop which may cause an accident and it also helps keep the flow of traffic going. The less I have to slow down or stop, the better it is for the people behind me. It's a traffic reducing driving technique. If you have to ask WHY I do these things, you fit in the category of slightly shit or worse drivers.

Yea, because using a blinker's hard when you have to shit, and making an extra car place at the expense of a possible accident is the best course of action when you really need to be somewhere :^S

In my experience, people in the Northeast suck at driving. And, being in the military and moving around a lot (I once drove from Fort Lewis Washington to Fort Benning Georgia), I've been to quite a few states. New Jersey is probably second worst in terms of drivers after South Carolina.

So many people have no fucking clue what they are doing on the road. They think that because they are in a car, they are in their own little world. It's fucking pathetic. Slowing down to merge? you are a fail. not throwing on that blinker? you are a fail. so many fails every day. FUCK. If you're a decent/good driver, spend a few years driving the 405 and you'll feel me.

Not if the guy next to you won't let up and no one is behind you. I do this sometimes.

That's a completely different situation and understandable as long as you flip the asshole the bird, you should still try to speed up if safe before slowing down to merge. I'm talking about the idiots who slow the fuck down to squeeze in 1 1/4 car lengths then proceed to have the 50 people behind them slam on their breaks furthering the development of congested traffic.
