Look for a NAS recommendation

I need recommendation on a 4 bay NAS solution for home. The budget is $600. I figure I can start at 2TB and have some room to grow from there. The NAS will host all kind of files, from app installation files, ISO, music, videos, photos, backup, backup images, etc.

HP MediaSmart since you have a Mac (best WHS integration with Macs and WHS has a ton of features/ add ons)... but wait a few months for Vail if possible.

pjkenned, I don't have a Mac but I do have a Mac LCD. Anyway, I was thinking of the Netgear NAS. Wouldn't an appliance with Linux OS better than WHS, in term of performance and stability?

honestly - for business (d2d2d) - the unix ones are just easier to deal with.

for the WHS goodies - wait for VAIL 🙂 or not.

before using a good quality nas (QNAP) atom-based or iscsi(drobo) i would not have said the same - but after using one i'm about to ditch a windows storage server for one of these 4 (prefer 8) bay slots. raid-0 - 4 x 2TB Re4 GP

They have some really slick options that did not exist back in the days (NTFS solid filesystem support, adaptive load balancing without need for LACP) etc.

my main fail is that i got 4 bays - should have gone for more.
