a buddy of mine was reading a book, which he describes as like harry potter but with adults, some vampire stuff.

any have a clue what this is?

er, the writer is a guy.... hopefully that eliminate 1/2 of books you're thinking about.

i think the setting is in America.

We have trolls, goblins, fantasy races and harry potter schools in america? Come now, we all know that all that stuff goes on in England, not here.

found out the series is the dresden files, by Jim Butcher.

My favorite series atm. It doesn't take itself too seriously and it's a great read. Start at book one ;)
