But on those really big 8 processor Opteron boards like the Tyan Thunder K8QW with daughter board. Could you really put an 8GB module in each bank? That would be 256 GB of memory. Why even bother with a harddrive lol. But that would mean a constant 64bit environment. Also the MOBO itself coudn't manage that much memory could it?

I'm thinking that most MOBOs are like my old gateway. It would only accept PC133 128MB chips or lower. It wouldn't recognize any memory of any higher capacity like 256MB or 512MB.

But on the bright side, You could max out a servers capacity with just 2 sticks of that stuff. Although with Opteron setups you still have to put a stick by each processor. Which means for 8-way boards you still have to add 8 stick of the stuff. Which would still be 64GB lol.

No. Opterons only support up to 2GB per Dimm.

Those 8GB Dimms are 2.05" high.. I would bet that they would only run in specific applications like an Alpha Server or something.
