That's.... um...

Seriously, there's got to be some VERY specific application for that.

yep, with a 220 deg. FOV, it's a lens that can see behind itself. it also weighs 12lbs.

that seller has a ton of overpriced rare camera equipment that sits unsold for months or years. Going rate on one of those should be around it's original new price, $12k or so.

I watch Nikon fisheyes on ebay pretty closely - I'm on the hunt for this lens' little brother, the 8mm/2.8

$34k versus $12k. That's an awfully big differential.

a lot of it is holdover from 2005-2007, when the collectors market was booming and the really rare stuff (this one, 300 f/2, 2000 f/11 etc) would double in price every time a new one came on the market (which wasn't that often, 1-2 a year)

last few years things have more or less collapsed. Hell, recently a 300 f/2 went for under $15k, new they were $28k. (edit: in 1983)

You need to ignore some of the comments that Dubb makes....

The price of that particular lense is in the ball park of what it would cost you to purchase it today!!

Dubb will never ever find that particular lense for 12k....rofl@Dubb...hahaaaa

So, I guess he's waiting for a rich, uneducated buyer to come along.

You mean for a more or less equivalent DX lens?

I Googled the lens and could find lots of info on it but no example pictures. This kind of crap is what's wrong with photography in the internet age - people care more about gear than images.

(Yes I know it's not an internet-era lens, I'm commenting on the state of information about the lens).

While at any given time it's tough to put an exact price on items this rare (only 5-600 were ever made between the early 70s and late 90s), I think $10-15k is about the correct price for a non-AI version, which will have to be updated to be used on modern cameras. This is the oldest, and most undesirable version of this lens.

I know one sold for $12.5k in '04, and an AI for ~$16K in '05. On other rare lenses we've largely seen prices return to about '05 levels, so I'm using those as a reference.

A mint AIS, with a couple interested bidders, might reach $25K. But this lens isn't one of those. Also, this lens has been on eBay for at least 5 months with prices ranging from $32K - $38k, and it hasn't sold.

Reminds of the days watching skate videos shot like that. :hmm: Mike Carrol comes in from fisheye obscured sidewalk and nollies up a fountain --> manual 30 feet --> double kick flip to grind...
