Look at the size of these new Thermaltake heat sinks!

This new heatsink with dual fans is freaking massive, so big it looks like you almost need to cut slots out of the side of your case for it to stick out of!

I'm thinking build my own custom case and take the fan off that thing and let it convection cool. That would be sexy.

That looks patently ridiculous. I wonder if it really works well? It seems to me that those copper tubes are not enough volume to carry heat away from a CPU effectively. I guess somebody probably knows better, but do these tubes really work well? I know they're solid, but still.

Anyway, that thing is dumb. You'd need to reinforce your socket to hold it in!

Even better, .640 x 2.2 = 1.4 pounds! Holy!

Well, if it cools even 1 degree better than it's closest competitor, it will sell.

Oh, and actually I doubt they are solid tubes. There's funky stuff in there - kind of like gel soaked cotton. Not exactly that, but kind of. Someone else probably has a better description of heatpipes than that...

why? who cares if a HSF is heavy if it does a great job cooling (ie zalman CNPS7000, slk800,900,947, etc..)?

My Speeze weighs less than half of that thing and I still suspend it from the bottom of my PSU to take some stress off the CPU socket. I guess those heavy jobs need to have the mobo holes to mount them.

1 SLK3700
1 Silent Tower
1 Panaflo L1A 120mm
Several pieces of plastic.

Duct the HS to the exhaust L1A.
If that an cool a P4 3.2 (stock voltage), I'll give it a thumbs-up.

Most things that look that rediculous dont work as good as they look. My SP97 probably cools better than that.

Of that there is no doubt. But can the heatpipe ones maybe get the job done quieter? Of course not, as it is a thermaltake product, so stock is loud, but possibly if the fans were changed around? If I could cool my CPU w/ just the case fan, that'd be awesome.

If it's a decent performer, it could easily be modded into a duct system. I'll reserve judgement until I see a review.

They're going to have to put blinking red lights on top of it so some poor pilot doesn't think it's a cloud

If I had a A64, I'd try one. otherwise, I wouldn't trust the weight. Sure, it'll make contact and all, but if I hit the PC accidentally, say when the cat gets tangled in headphone and USB cables (yes, it does happen, and often), will it stay there? The A64 retension bracket is insane enough to trust with such monstrosities :).
When I upgrade to an A64 (my next upgrade, no earlier than fall), I'll try one of these heatsinks (prolly not the TT one, though), and a duct. With the C&Q support only growing, it looks like a good bet, and the platform is already maturing very well.

<- switching to desktop case...and not even trying one then on a socket clip.
