Look at the moon tonight

I'm at work. 🙁 Can't see the moon from the office even if I go outside.

I always miss these. if I am at home, then it ends up being cloudy.

Oh well I'm sure lot of people will post pics.

Big and very red.

I seem to be lucky it's at a spot that I can see it if I go outside the office. It looks like it started slightly. I think the total eclipse is at around 10pm.

Weather was touch and go here. 50/50 chance on whether the clouds would get here before the eclipse did. Looks like the eclipse won. Sky is still clear and moon is about halfway covered. I'll go outside about 25 minutes from now to watch it start to turn red.

Yeah, she still is going and checking, she was going to pull out the NASA feed she said.

I tried space.com, looks overloaded there atm.

I think the moon is trolling 🙂

*edit* NASA.gov even says off the air.

Of course there are clouds hugging the mountains to the east here in LA when there's a once in a decade+ blood moon event. 😡

Well, I take it back. Now that it's pretty much totally eclipsed, it's red.
Very cool. I'm impressed.

Well, since this is the 4th total lunar eclipse this year & 3 were visible to you(LA) & 3 more are coming in 2018/19 - 2 visible to you i'd hardly call it a "once in a decade+" event.
Not counting this years, there were 6 total lunar eclipses in the last 10 years & there will be 9 in the next 10 years.

"Blood moon" is just another name for eclipsed moon that's become popular in the last several years.

Obligatory..."That's NOT a moon!"

Saw it its full glory here on the Olympic Peninsula. Nice clear skies for a change.

While "blood moon" is just a bullshit name (NOT new BTW) for a lunar eclipse, tonight's eclipse was a bit different than the normal one. First, it was during the full moon nearest the fall equinox...next, it happened during a "super moon" when the moon was at its closest apogee to the earth...making the moon a bit larger than normal. Last time this happened was 33 years ago...next time will be in 18 years.
