The fish uses a form of location called amiiform swimming in which its dorsal fin, which runs the length of its sizable body, undulates while the body itself remains straight and motionless.

Sigh...

damn that is pretty neat. the way it swims is pretty awesome. i love seeing creatures of the depth, so much shit we don't know about down there.

on survivor the past season (or possibly 2 seasons ago) one of the rewards was to go snorkeling with whale sharks. now THAT would be freaking awesome. those things were HHUUGGEEE.

Video in OP's link looks just like the one depicted in the 1999 animated film from Studio Ghibli, My Neighbors The Yamadas. A very brief and impresively-animated segment shows the family in a submersible while a giant oarfish swims by.
